You won't be able to activate XP Home edition with an XP Pro serial number...if the laptop originally came with an XP pro license and has the code on the bottom you should be able to "obtain" a copy of an XP pro CD from somewhere - you have a license for it for that machine even if the physical disk is lost.

I would also update to SP3 after installing.
