I'm glad to see your c4 is being brought back to life. I take it you did not get farther trying to buy my old one?

I would have despite needing a cambelt & waterpump,, (the pump was leaking) but he just stopped replying to my questions. I assume he didn't want to sell it after all.daviemck2006 wrote:I'm glad to see your c4 is being brought back to life. I take it you did not get farther trying to buy my old one?

Re: RE: Re: FakeConcern's C4 VTS
I kind of thought he wasn't serious about selling it either. Oh well, you know your own one better. Is it a cat c? Do you have to mot it and get a vic?Fake Concern wrote:I would have despite needing a cambelt & waterpump,, (the pump was leaking) but he just stopped replying to my questions. Re: FakeConcern's C4 VTS
He was a bit strange, why advertise if it's not for sale? I'd have given him the asking price. It's cat D and I don't really know what I need to do after it's fixed. It still shows as having a current MOT and the insurance assessor told me a VIC is no longer needed. I'm hoping someone can tell me the legal requirements to get it back on the road.

Re: FakeConcern's C4 VTS
I've done a cat c before, it needed an mot and a vic. I think a cat d you just fix it and go. Is it still taxed? I think the best way to find out is probably ask your own insurance. I think mine told me had I put the c5 back on the road it would be a cat d and they would insist it had a new mot before they would cover it, but as I sold it it would be a cat c. It's really as clear as mud!

Re: FakeConcern's C4 VTS
I think the VIC is a thing of the past now. I SORNed the car when written off, but the MOT still shows until July so I can tax it again when I like. The chap fixing it will get a new MOT for me when it's done anyway. As you say, though, clear as mud!daviemck2006 wrote:I've done a cat c before, it needed an mot and a vic. Yes, I can't wait to get it back, although I've been enjoying the XM (80 mile round trip commute) in the mean time even though it's now covered in salt & muck!CitroJim wrote:Delighted to see it's being fixed, excellent

Re: FakeConcern's C4 VTS
I spose I should have updated this thread before the final demise of the car!
Here is a brief history of it since the last post.
I didn't get the car back until June 2016 and although the actual repair was good, the full respray wasn't and despite the repairer having back a few times, it was never finished satisfactorily. In addition to this it suffered several problems involving failing to start, breaking down, being recovered and general uncertainty that it would proceed as directed at any given time. Finally in about June of this year it seemed to be working correctly, then the clutch release bearing failed! As this is an eight hour job an new cltch fitted came to another £530 and two weeks after that the clutch was slipping. My mechanic stripped it down again and found that the gearbox primary shaft had failed leaving it wobbling around and leaking oil onto the clutch! This would cost the price of clutch and fitting again plus the price of a rebuilt gearbox. I decided to call it a day.
It's a shame it all ended like this as until the car was smashed into at 180000 miles it had only really needed routine maintenance. I should have let it be scrapped then, but hindsight is a wonderful thing! In the end it still ran up to just over 197000 miles.
If the repair and paintwork had been really good I would still have had the gearbox fixed, but it could never be how I wanted it to be and what with wondering what else could go wrong it was the end. Never mind time for LEZ!
A couple of pics to end on

Re: FakeConcern's C4 VTS
She did you well, I only hope LEZ is as good for you. I will feel guilty if it ends up breaking or unreliable. At 86000 miles on it just nowheres hoping it does 100k for you with no problem.
