I've never been to Scotland so thought 'why not' but a quick Google my place to Macduff says 12 hours and 5 minutes so I think I'll opt out of that one.

You really want to spend time with us lot of oddballs and reprobates? Good lord man!
No odder than the other groups of idiots I hang about with!
I also really enjoy a good technical challenge and this is the sort of thing which intrigues me...like having to reverse engineer half the emission control system on the Lada to identify a 25 year old design flaw which had probably resulted in dozens of cars being scrapped!

I went to Algiers and Egypt as a soldier and have been as a civilian to Berlin east and west, (before the wall came down), a lot of Australia and New Zealand, Singapore, and many parts of the USA but I've still to do Scotland, Cornwall and Ireland.

My Grandad was in Algiers and Egypt in WW2, before your time. Morocco, France and Belgium too amongst others. He wasn't keen on Germans after WW2 oddly, but only because they didn't make nice sausages.
Has bigpug had the issues since the remap Davie ? Hope you manage to get the Ex-Pug tech to have a look at it for you , it looks way to nice to scrap/break , I had an issue with a C5 2.2hdi which had the eml on all the time which was sorted out very quickly by a Pug tech mate , It didn't improve the horrendous mpg though , the Freelander will do more mpg believe it or not abd thats a 4x4 with an autobox .

Simon often bemoans his poor mpg on his Xantia - is that inherent in the V6, manual and auto?
Davie's is a diesel... I'm considering buying it if I can acquire something to tow it with on a trailer legally. Bloody thing weighs in at 1800kg, add on another 400kg for a trailer and it's tricky!

The story is I got it remapped, the guy quoted me £320 for the mapping, it wouldnt work via the obd port so he took the ecu out and did it on the bench. It made an immediate difference, much more responsive and a big improvement in mpg, but he only charged me £100. It ran perfect for about 3 months, then went into limp home mode when I asked for kickdown to overtake a lorry. It drove 30 miles home, and hasnt turned a wheel since. The guy who remapped it did a runner, I have since heard that there were more cars that broke. I suspect that it is a bad remap, possibly with a virus in it that has wrecked all or part of the eletronic systems on the car. Lexia is not helping me at all and I dont want to start buying random bits to try to fix it. That could end up costing a fortune. I cant get any local garage to look at it, nearest pug dealer is 40 miles away, with no way of getting it there. The AA man I called out reconed it was a choked dpf so it has been off, cleaned and refitted. Since then I can get it started but on about 1/2 of its 6 cylinders, not revving and sounding like a bucket of nails. It has near a full tank of diesel in it, has one new uniroyal tyre which cost over £100 quid and done about 100 miles, the one on the other side done about 3000 miles, a new budget 17" tyre for a spare, no battery as my son nicked it. It has the good battery out of gabby in it just now. 86000 miles covered if I remember correctly. MOT is out now but I cant think of much that needed doing before it broke. I would value it about £1800 running with a MOT, what its worth as it is I really have no idea, but I would hope for about £500, considering it has near £100 of diesel in it.

My insurance is coming to pick up the leon on Monday morning. I had to take photos to send to them. I wont be getting a courtesy car until the repairers have it, does an estimate and privilege insurance approve it. That is because going by the photos they say its one of those that may be a write off. I did not pay the ectra on the policy for a guaranteed hire car or I would have already had it and would of kept it until I got the settlement. So right now I am in limbo land, and my bosses van has broke its gearbox (its a vauxhall) so its as well I bought the caddy van last week. It will keep me mobile and theres a big vw tax in this area so should manage to sell it on easily when the time comes. I hope the leon gets fixed though, I have grown quite attached to that car in the short time I have owned it. The caddy has notably harder seats and firmer ride than the leon despite coming from basically the same stable with basically the same chassis. I suppose it has to keep the vw tradition of sitting in a wheelbarrow!
