If leaking at injectors that's the leak-off pipes gone hard and that was the symptom I got brainblock over earlier. They feed back into pump and will draw an inordinate amount of air. Cheap and easy fix, like the filter and pump - new fuel hose (plus one end cap for the last injector).

daviemck2006 wrote: 13 Mar 2018, 23:04 Well it seems that there is nothing wrong with the fuel pump on Gabby. So much for a ex Citroen mechanic at a garage seeing it coming from the pump. Second opinion from a different garage today, injector seals on 1 and 2 leaking and that's my leak and not the pump. Then I went to visit my daughter, and Dan the Scotrail fixing man was on a day off. I just said to him that I have a leak and can you see it. After a few minutes his verdict is there's a slight leak where the fuel pipe goes into the filter, and injector one and 2 are leaking. I said what about the pump? He said bone dry. The idle is slightly erratic but it smoothes out under power. Dan said that's common with injector leaks. So a set of injector seals at £12 and an afternoon should sort it. He says the injectors should come out easily enough on an xud and it won't be to fiddly or difficult a job. So that will be the first plan of attack. Once those are done we should know as soon as it starts again if that's the problem, by the way it idles. Dan said he will do the pump for me if it is necessary, but don't touch it untill every other possible source of leaking is eliminated, as he said as far as he can see the pump is dry too.

Them Dan's next idea is take the engine and gearbox out of Gabby and convert lilpug to an xud turbo manual! A 1.9td 205 with a tweaked pump would be some car, but lilpug is so genuine and sound it won't be it that gets it. And Gabby would only lose her engine and box if the body disintegrated before my eyes, or something flattens it's rear end. Now get a 1.8d na 205 and a xud turbo something else for a donor and then get a great car! I'm not doing it though lol.

On to bigpug. I'm actually coming to the conclusion it's dead. Unbeknown to me the company who remapped it for me was very dodgy. I'm saying was as it does not now exist. I know they took the edu out and then opened it up. What was then done to it I don't know. I think it's highly likely that the edu is fried, or it has fried other bits of the cars electrical systems. I still will put it somewhere to get checked out. Does anyone know if I were to get a used edu can it be programmed to the car via diagbox? I am just basically thinking out loud just now.

I know HDi-tuning who remapped the Berlingo could supply an ECU itself, unlocked with whichever map I wanted if I hadn't been able to send mine to them. Might be worth asking them or the other reputable sources.

Davie, excellent news on Gabby's pump :D That's delighted me and made up for being very peed off at a bloody cheeky post in my blog!

Made my day it has :)

Don't put an XUD in Lilpug

It'll spoil it totally! It's present engine is very sweet..

Lilpug is staying exactly as she is. She is far too honest and genuine to ruin it doing silly stuff to her. She has the gti front and alloys on and that is it, and the original front, wheels and trims are in the lockup to be fitted if I ever want her 100% original. That's two different people saying it's not Gabbys pump, without prompting, so injector seals are now ordered so will see what that does to her. The first garage I went to I said the pump, so I assume they have just agreed with me and they don't really know. Is it any wonder we have so much distrust of garages?

Trouble is, so many garages nowadays have lost the old skills and the mechanics just don't seem to have the interest or aptitude now :( A sad state of affairs...

It seems that if they can't do the job with a fancy laptop they're now a bit stumped...

Another manifestation of the snowflake culture this country seems so keen to nurture...

Thank goodness some exceptions still remain...

Though to be fair Jim, when we get work experience students doing a year in IT in industry, we don't teach them about 30 or 40 year old kit do we? We teach them generally what's been around the last 10-12 years. I'd not be teaching one how to install a math co-processor on a 386/SX and how to set the jumpers on the motherboard correctly, which is a vague comparison to changing a old-school diesel pump in comparison to an HDi

That's a fair point Mike :D Although, when I was an apprentice a lot of history and basics was taught to lay a firm foundation for learning the (then) more modern and complex stuff but then I'm going back over 40 years now...

How many of us remember maths co-processors now :)

I once fitted one to my 386 PC to speed up some heavy maths I wrote into a program to predict HF Radio propagation - the best frequency to use if wishing to communicate between two points on the planet at a given time of day on a given month in a given year... The difference it made was astounding!

But the tech at the first garage claimed to be ex Citroen and must have been over 60 and to know his way around xud engines and fuel pumps, so should have known.

On that basis yes... It would be like me making a fundamental misdiagnosis on a faulty valve wireless...

Or, for that matter, on a Xantia...

In what way?

Back 30 years ago HF Radio propagation was very much a specialist subject of mine :)

You couldn't make this up.

I was actively digging through my boxes of old computer stuff for an 80387 math co-processor at the weekend!

Seems stupid not to have one in the Toshiba T5200...It's got every other option specified...

is an XUD turbo the answer for he who was looking at alternative engines for his C15?
remember my tank out fiasco to cure fault originally diagnosed as a faulty injector?
