I dont think the 5% difference in profile would really matter. But I want to run out the 40 profile anyway, if I put them on the back they will last forever!

I see what you mean all those burn outs.............

Oil and filter changed on Gabby today. Easiest sump plug removal and easiest oil filter removal I have ever had. Thank you Jim or Zel, whoever last changed the oil, 7000 miles ago according to the dymo tape on the slam panel :)

The Xantia is so easy to do the oil on. I used to do my TDs by putting the suspension on high, sticking an axle stand under one of the jacking points, and just reaching under to undo the drain plug and filter. So so easy. I'm not sure for others but for my 6ft I didn't really have to get "under" the car

Reminds me, I've still got the tape printed out for Jim when he did the timing belt here somewhere!

The last oil/filter would have been done by me Davie and I'm delighted the job was so easy for you this time... I never do filters or plugs up FT... There's just no need...

I did the cambelt and waterpump about a year ago as I remember... Around about 207K. I did not change any of the tensioners as they were all good for further duty...

Mike, yes, that's the beauty of Xantia suspension, it makes many jobs so easy... I really miss it when doing oil changes on the 207; not quite so bad on the Saxo as it sits a little further off the ground...

One thing I hate about doing the oil and filter on the 207 is the horrid cartridge filter  I'm so pleased my Saxo is early enough to have the same 'spin-on' as fitted to all XU and earlier TU engines :)

Zel, better pop those tapes in the post I reckon ;)

Ah, yes, those. The C4 GP has one, I've no idea how to deal with it having never changed one before. I never bothered changing the oil on the 207 as it pissed it everywhere through all but the last few thousand miles we owned it.

Basically Mike, undo the top with an almighty big socket and have a big bowl underneath to catch the spill that will run all over the filter housing and anything else in the vicinity!

Then retrieve and dispose of the oily old element. It will be very oily and will drip mess all over the place if you are not careful...

And even if you are careful it'll make a mess...

I wear disposable gloves and have a few old sandwich bags at the ready to put the old element in...

Use a new sealing ring upon replacement...

Not one of PSA's finest moments in my opinion

I just had a guy approach me in Tescos carpark to talk xantias. He had done his time as an apprentice mechanic in a Citroen garage when the xantia was introduced and he loves them. He wanted to buy Gabby. I told him that he wouldnt give me enough monet to part with her. He said how about £600? The answer was still no. I didnt get her to make a quick profit. I got her because I wanted her, and still do want her. So that guys hunt for an xud xantia continues! Im keeping Gabby! If I wanted to sell a car just now it would be the 407.

Wouldn't think he'd have to hunt to far to find an XUD Xantia given their values these days...Now, one that drives half as well, that might be another matter!

Yes quite :) I still maintain that Gabby is the best 1.9TD out there... I've never known another to be as good and I've known enough of them...

Davie, you did the right thing to refuse the £600

If it's this type of filter housing, then they're supposed to have a cut out in the threaded portion of the black plastic housing that breaks the airlock as you undo it and allows oil to drain back into the sump. Basically - pause before you fully unscrew the black housing !
Obviously, it never quite works how it should, but most of the oil goes back into the sump. :rofl2:

That's good to know :)

I'll take note and try that the next time I change the oil on the Pug of Love!
