I'm delighted Gabby's Christmas presents have arrived Davie :) What amazes me is knowing where one of them originated that both arrived at the same time!

I'm not surprised you found Lilpug's lights good after Gabby's! 205's do have good lights and likewise so does the Saxo... I was amazed at just how good they are... When I ran 205s I never had complaints with headlights but almost every Xantia and every XM has been like driving with a pair of candles out front

Only my Activa has decent ones and that car has had the relay mod done...

Gabby might benefit from some new bulbs too...

Well that's me :( Sadly, my ability to cope with any kind of stress deteriorates on an almost daily basis and car transactions of any sort are definitely now far too stressful for me...

Mike, all best on the 207 sale... I won't be selling mine any time soon. Although I prefer the Saxo the old 207 has quite grown on me and will be staying for an extended period, even if she sees little use she's an ideal second/bad winter weather car...

The way I've learnt to deal with stress is simple Jim. I simply don't give a flying any more. It's the only way I can stay vaguely sane.

I shall be trading the 207 in against an 07 plate 1.6 HDi C4 Grand Picasso, 96k, black.. etc etc in the morning, providing everything on the Pic works properly.

I really try and some things I can take that attitude Mike but not all. I'm slowly getting better at it though ;)

Now that's a good family hack and if one has to have a so-called people carrier it's a great choice :)

Almost perfect really as you have your fun car and SWIMBO has something very practical and well suited to her needs...

Will be interested to see how the Pic beds itself down in the Mike family in due course ;)

Hope the engine has a very comprehensive service history... They're bloody wonderful engines but need looking after...

Having driven a 1.6hdi they are great when running correctly, and amazing on fuel. I suppose you have read the same on here that I have, the first thing to check is the tightness of the clamps holding the injectors in and make sure it has the correct oil and change ir frequently and it will be fine. I would have a 1.6hdi, but I wouldnt have the egs gearbox, which rules out the 1.6 for me as I would want auto.

This one has a full service history, and appears to have been well maintained. I have enough spare cash left over for a new turbo and removing oil mesh and all the malarkey too. I'm going off the logic that if it's made it to 96k without self-destructing, it must be something like right.

It's actually my choice Jim, she would prefer something a bit smaller, which we'd have if we had space. I want something I can use to put bikes in without taking them apart, still have room for 4 people, and not have a bike rack on. I found an 06 2.0HDi Berlingo with just 60k on it, owned from new by an old gent who's now passed away. I'd have bought it instantly if it had air con, but it didn't!

this one?

Looks OK - one owner, MOT history looks OK - although I'd want to know that the oil leak that has cropped up several times has been sorted. Despite the best efforts of 2 small boys, we haven't managed to break any of the trim on ours (now on 110k). Couple of things to look out for on the history:

Cambelt due at 10 years / (150k otherwise) - not too hard / expensive but a bargaining point
Rear discs may be getting near due - they're expensive as integral bearings, another bargaining point
Check the boot handle - they're a bit under spec and break - best to lift the boot by the trim piece rather than the handle
If a sales service is offered / complete then check they've used the proper oil
Air filter, diesel filter and pollen filter all a mare to change; check if due and bargain against them
Clutch might be getting near, it's expensive to replace, so check it carefully for untoward noise
Check the injectors for build up of carbon, smell, noise - the seals usually need doing at around 100k, and the injectors are not always wanting to be removed!!

Ha, yes, the very same!

Thanks Richard, I hadn't yet read the MOT history, that was on my to-do list when I got home from work. I have now, and it's put me off a bit to be honest. I don't mind doing the pollen filter on these oddly enough, a friend has one (annoyingly, had it from new, and the EGS hasn't broken in 10 years!). The rest is a pig though.

I'm vaguely tempted by a petrol one actually. Wifey won't do more than 6 or 7 k miles in it, and they can be had cheaper than the diesels, and the price difference buys a lot of petrol.

What, like this?

Had a clutch and cambelt. Ought to go OK - no worse on the go juice than your ST!! Avoids all the 1.6 HDi related problems....

Went to look at this one. The two injectors on the drivers side as you look at it - vac pump/timing belt end had "issues" and the "oil leak" was the crud and associated goo covering that end of the engine from these leaky injectors. Turbo was clearly newish as were the two metal pipes going into the dpf.

The rest, it was ok but I didn't bother starting it. Told him why and explained in detail how to get it fixed and cleaned up, and left.

Going to look at the petrol that's had all the work done already now. Dearer to run maybe, but none of these HDi issues. If that's bad, I'm looking at a Zafira later..
