Don't like that.

I don't like it either! Possibly because I have leather already and also possibly because that's for a 406 and I have a 407! Good try though mr SF!

Thats now another evening of working that Gabby has completed. Shes great for the job, gave one of the shop staff a run home and thats another who says they like her and cant believe shes knocking on 19 years old! Im looking at the mot, shes due 11th novemder I think which means i can put her in after 11th oct. However i think Im going to see if I can get her done this week. Shes going brilliantly, and if I do her earlier this year then that means she can go in end of august next year, which will be a better time. Im now getting used to the glow plugs, its a long time since I've had the ignition on and wait a bit before starting! Its no problem, just get in, put ignition on, put searbelt on, start car. I put a count to 10 in there somewhere when starting from stone cold. So far she has started first time, every time. Im going to be at risk of being blacklisted with my next statement, for me she is a better, nicer car than my activa was. I never bonded with the activa, but I have with Gabby. She is lovely.

Nope, you won't be blacklisted. While an Activa is a special vehicle (with a unique suspension) it does NOT mean you have to like them (somewhat like Marmite). Gabby, while she may be just a vanilla Xantia, is showing a character to you that you can mesh with.

Know what you mean, Davie. We preferred our BX19RD to our son's 19GTi. Gentle, much more comfortable, altogether more relaxed. Glad Gabby is winning everyone over.

Davie, I am so pleased and delighted that Gabby is settling in so well with you and is doing great service :D It's a great relief after the Activa fiasco - with is still bloody well dragging on

I an still adamant that Gabby is the very last car I'll ever sell... Activa and 207 will be scrapped when they reach the end of their lives. In fact I won't sell anything at all now under any circumstances...

I can understand the bonding totally. I could never bond with XMs. Tried hard but it never happened.

I too find the red 406 leather rather revolting

I never understood why glow plugs don't cycle from the driver's seat sensor. They'd be preheated by the time you got the key in the ignition that way.
I like driving diesels but that small point always bugged me. I didn't get around to modifying any of mine though.

Now that's an excellent idea James :) Easy enough to implement too...

Gabby is booked in for MOT. Its early but Im wanting it slightly earlier in the year. Only thing needing fixed I see is the screenwash nozzle on the passenger side only gives a tiny dribble of water, not enough to reach the screen. A blast of the air line two minutes before the test should fix it.

Shauns civic type r has gone to a new "home" where it is going to be stripped for parts, its worth more broken for bits than its going to cost for mot, being a rotten civic needing welding amongst other bits. He has swapped it for an mx5, he will get fun at lower speeds now. I cant say I'm disappointed, that civic was brutal, and as far as I am concerned, death waiting to happen.

I still have an odd wheel on big pug. There is no reply from the council yet regarding the knackered wheel and tyre, the spare still has a 1/2 inch crack in the inside rim, the tyre is off it at the moment, I have got a new tyre but the wheel not welded yet. I got a 17" alloy off a saloon out of a scrappy, it is on the car just now, along with 3 18" ones. Its no worse than running with a space saver. Lil pug is in hiding and beryl still on loan, probably just 2 weeks to live.

Windscreen washers are an ongoing issue I suspect. She was missing the cap on the washer bottle when I got her and the system was full of gunk. Flushed it out as best I could, but the jets still usually needed cleaned out every few months.

If that's the only thing to fix I will be happy, and it's thanks to yourself and Jim, as all I have none so far is check the tyre pressures and oil, and put water in the washers!

I had to regularly rod out the jets Davie... Hence you should have found a long pin in the coin tray or the little tray behind the handbrake lever...

Fingers crossed for the MOT...

Gabby is wounded. Nasty horrible MOT man
6AE35D03-9993-4F48-A873-FDA3C8D53A01.jpeg
After being hurt with just a thumb she threw her toys out of the pram and decided she wants 2 new p bushes and a bottom ball joint!

On the plus side tester Graham said she is a sound old thing and looks as if she has been loved. So off to see the guy that welded the exact same bit of my activa last year. At least he will know what he is doing this time!

Interesting it's gone there Davie - they usually go closer to the join! Anyway, shouldn't be too bad to repair. P bushes can be a pain - make sure who ever is doing them is either careful with the roll bar, or removes the link to the height corrector, otherwise it can screw up the suspension height! Ball joints can be very very tight....
