Yes, I agree. Once you have moved on, never go back, but this is not for me. I'm more than happy with the 407 as my car, and the 205 for the project. When I get the xantia to replace the van it's for work. My old vts, cracking motor as it was is not really suitable due to various reasons to replace any of those cars.

Speaking of the 205 Davie, how is it now? I never saw any resolution posted regarding its poor running a while back - unless I completely missed it - which given the state of my brain sometimes - is entirely possible

Due to my own issues and poor weather here its not resolved yet Jim. It hasnt turned a wheel for a few weeks now. Ive been using the 407 and the van for work. The van did over 100 miles last night delivering food! Lots of hungry folk in the outlying villages yesterday.

Well LEZ6446 is now sitting in my drive. I went to view it today, the car is still in great condition and driving perfectly. It needs new discs on the back so I got a bit knocked off the price. I phoned the person who is going to become the new owner, money changed hands and i drove her home here, which was a distance of aporox 100 miles. I had forgotten how comfortable a c4 vts is, and how much fun it is! Behind lorry on single carriageway road at 50mph, 3rd gear, foot down up to 7000 revs, lorry rapidly disapearing behind you. Much fun! However that in itself reminded me of some of the reasons I sold this car. Yes, its fun but it doesnt fit my driving style, and never did. Its great having 177 bhp in a small car, but when that 177 bhp is all at the top end, with a raspy exhaust note, again fun, it gets wearing compared to the 407 hdi for example. In fact to compare them, the 407 has 2.7 litres, 245 approx bhp, trainloads of torque, cruises at 60mph at 1650 rpm, revs to 4500rpm returning over 40mpg at that speed. The c4, 2.0 petrol, 177bhp, not a large amount of torque, have to use the gearbox, 60mph in top gear 3000revs, will rev to 7500 rpmreturning 35mpg at 60. Overall speed and acceleration probably about the same. Yes, LEZ is a lovely car, and I have fell for it again, but I would never swap the 407 for it. However I am sure her new owner will love her. There now just needs to be a bit of a logistical nightmare moving her about 6 or maybe even 700 miles!

If you look at page 3 of this blog you will see how LEZ looked in March 2013 when I first bought her. I shall take a snap or 2 tomorrow just for a compare.

Sounds very like the engine in the second Ford Fusion my late father had. Sounded great and went like a scalded cat - between 5K and the limiter (which you hit like a brick wall).
It was quite fun to chuck around now and then (especially as the lovely slick gearchange made it fun to keep on key on a twisty road) but would be tiring to live with I reckon. I know on a couple of longer runs I found myself wishing for more torque than power as I frantically scrabbled to drop three gears for an overtake...
I believe they shoehorned the same motor into the Ka in some form...that would be... entertaining I would think.
Current fleet:
07 Volvo V70 SE D5, 88 Renault 25 Monaco, 85 Sinclair C5, 84 Trabant 601S, 75 Rover 3500, 73 AC Model 70.
I'd better own up to being the new owner and thanks so much to Davie for sorting out a viewing and buying it for me. Having seen the car myself a few years ago and having Davie say it still looks as good I can't wait to get hold of it.
Here's a couple of pics of LEZ with my old VTS & the one Franklin had at the time.

Sounds a bit like the Civic Type R engine - makes 200+ BHP but doesn't come on cam and make meaningful power till 6k rpm - which means driving round in 2nd all the time if you want to 'make progress' on normal roads!!
Having driven a civic type r as my son owns one which is currently on sorn, the c4 vts is very similar, although not quite so hardcore. I find the civic brutal, its a racer, the seats too hard and the ride too unforgiving for me. The vts in comparision is firm enough for decent handling, yet still a comfortable seat and ride. In fact the seats are as comfortable as any I have sat in. If I did want a hot hatch again a c4 vts would fit the bill nicely, but these days i want to major on rhe grand tourer thing hence the 407.
