Re: Davie's french attraction.
Mot day for the 407 tomorrow. I wasnt expecting an mot yet, thats what i get for buying a car with short test. I dont have any concerns for it, the advisories from last year are all done, and one problem i found of screen washers not working is fixed. I havent been right under it, but have had all wheels off the ground and all seems well.

Humans start to need an MOT at 40... And then every five years afterward...
Hope yours all goes Ok Davie... At my last one they couldn't find anything to tell me off about

Re: Davie's french attraction.
Big pug got a fail. A binding brake, caliper is now freed off but I need brake pads. I blame whoever fitted the full set of pads, discs, rear calipers, rear brake pipes and rear flexi hoses pretty recently. One pad seized solid in the carrier and has done this to new pads. It also needs one wheelbearing. It's not noisy but in the testers words as rough as a badgers arse. Wheelbearing booked for monday and a set of pads ordered.

Re: RE: Re: Davie's french attraction.
It wont be difficult Alasdair. Garage is doing the wheelbearing on Monday, hopefully I will have the pads by then, then its passed. My tester did say the car looks well maintained with all the new brake parts on it, just a pity whoever fitted them did not clean up the carriers very well! I will fit the full set of front pads, and tahe the rears out and refit them just so I know they are tree and stay free in the carriers. On Friday its getting mapped to in the region of 250 bhp and 580 lbft of torque, its a big heavy car, so it will need the brakes to be spot on.Stickyfinger wrote:Easy re-pass, good job Davie
And I might just say bloody brakes! Kerris audi has also got a seized caliper or carrier, its mot is a couple of months away, there are new discs and pads, and a new rear spring bought to go on to it in the very near future, i.e. few days. We have a problem to overcome on it though, there is no key for the locking wheelnuts. Once i get them off there will only be normal studs fitted. I have already dumped the lockers off of big pug.

Re: Davie's french attraction.
That's just annoying...How could they not notice that when they did the brakes?
Hoping for no bad news myself as my 107 is in for the MOT tomorrow morning too.
... Haven't touched it since the last test save for checking the tyre pressures, a wash, oil and filter change, clean of the air filter (have a lifetime one in there) and new set of headlight bulbs yesterday when one blew.
Still feels like a brand new car to drive though without any wobbles, vibration, rattles or clonks, despite turning eight years old last week. Will need new rear tyres again soonish though, they're starting to perish again...

I took one off of a Ford something or other 2 weeks ago by simply hammering a 16pt 19mm socket onto it. Couldn't believe it worked but it did, the owner was slightly amazed too.

Re: Davie's french attraction.
I would say they hadnt cleaned the crud off the carriers Zel. 5 minutes with a wire brush and put the pads back in with copperslip and they are working fine, albeit with dodgy pads lol. I had to hammer the inside pad out of the carrier. The other side looks ok but i will change the pads anyway. Hope the 107 is fine. At least they are really simple cars to work on. Ours is running on uniroyal rain expert3 tyres all round. Shaun is doing most of the mileage just now running to Dunecht from Macduff daily. 84 miles every working day on to it. The rain experts are cracking tyres on every car ive tried them on. The 107 has 4 on, big pug has 2, shauns toy civic typer has 4, kerris a4 has 2, all have fantastic grip from them. They are not too expensive from camskill either. I would heartily recommend them for your baby pug, then when your fronts are done move the fronts forward and new on the back again. Maybe manage to use them before they perish! That takes some doing on the back of a 107 lol

Re: Davie's french attraction.
Davie, I've cracked of a few locking wheelnuts now using a reverse-flute socket of appropriate size.. These are special sockets designed to grip onto nuts and bolts with damaged hexagons on them..
All best for the retest... As Alasdair says, it won't be a problem. Shame though a bit of incompetence led to a fail

Re: Davie's french attraction.
I do have a set of those sockets Jim. Got me out of a few pickles in the past. Never failed to get a rounded nut off yet, so I'm hoping they do the job on the wheel nuts. If they don't just have to scrap the audi lol
