I bought it because i like the styling of it, and i knew it would sell on ok. VW here is seen as some sort of status symbol. I dont know why. French cars are seen here as absolute rubbish, there is not many french cars here. I dont know why that is either. Ive never had any real problems with any french car, apart from the c2 sensodrive, ive owned one merc, nothing but problems, one audi that was good, one vw which was reliable but horrible and one bmw mini which was crap. I have no desire to own anything german again. Had my 407 been an audi a5 coupe, similar size and styling I would have had to pat about 4 or 5 times as much for it at the same age. I can live with its ugly im a big fish coming to eat you grille at that lol

French make great small hatchbacks, but I don't think their mid-sized or large cars have ever quite lived up to expectation. I can't think of one that was as great or as long-lived as it could have been with some development instead of replacement.

My dad had Mercs for the last 30 years (and a VAG Skoda Octavia Ambience). Only regular servicing, and not one breakdown. I had more than that in a Lexus! Down here I know loads of VW owners, mainly Golfs and Passats, and they are tremendously reliable.

My problem with them is the dull interiors, and the cloth seats they have. I'm not a huge fan of leather but German cloth seats are horrid!

I'd never buy a small German car like a Polo or Fabia or SEAT Arouser. We'll have a Pug 208 for that, but I'd not buy a larger French one (not a modern for family use anyway - I'd have a CX or GS as a toy) so Passat Highline TDi Estate on an 11 plate it shall be.

Always did wonder how expensive those rear quarter windows would be to change on the Leon...

As you can see the Leon is various different shades of black lol. The buyer has not seen it yet but he has been told its about 4 different colours and it has heaps of scratches and it is not pretty. He says he aint bothered so i hope he sticks to his word lol.ImageImage
There's nothing like hand washing a car to see all the blemishes. There is more than I realised on the big pug, but it is 10 years old and looks original paint. I comes up a bonny shine with just a wash though. I wouldn't manage anything else today, took ages to wash them and that's me goosed. Chilled on the sofa now recovering. I'm on the way down again [emoji20]

This highlights my issue with the 407 well.

It looks fantastic when you can't see the front!

Its absolutely gorgeous rear 3/4 view. I do agree with you the front is like jaws coming to eat you and could well cause panic until you realise there is a plastic mesh there to stop it eating you [emoji16] [emoji23] [emoji23]

I like that design although I prefer the Altea and Toledo with its "bustle" :-)

I don't. To my eye it looks wrong. Can't articulate exactly why but it's not pleasing to me at all...

To me the altea looks bloated and the toledo is odd. I like the leon, it's pleasing on the eye to me, albeit from about 50 feet in the case of mine! I like the inside styling too, a bit plasticy, but hard wearing, my interior is near unmarked after 184000 miles. There's one fag burn which you can't really blame on the car. The Spanish made a good job of making a golf more appealing. It's still here yet, waiting for the buyer to arrange pick up, it's supposed to be this evening.
