I put the 205 into the lock up a few days ago and looked out my gti front for it. I also have a new bumper. The new bumper is now painted black, the spoiler is rubbed down for painting once I get rattle cans the correct colour. I will remove the existing bumper and balance and keep them as is in case I want to go to standard in the future. It's only 1/2 a dozen bolts to remove. The only thing is I only left it in the lock up for one night then stuck the Leon in there and took the 205 up the road again. I know the Leon drives ok but I have totally lost interest in it, so time to shift it on I think. Shauns civic is now roadworthy again so I can use the 107 for my work at the weekends, which is basically all I work anyway, an occasional evening during the week. I have decided to use the 205, I know it's putting miles on but it won't be a lot really, maybe only 3 to 4 thousand a year and I believe a car is better kept being used. I think, say in two years, it won't affect its value one bit if it has 35k or 45k on it if it's looked after. It now has a set of waterproof seat covers on the front and tailored car mats to protect the interior, so it will get used for the local stuff leaving the 407 for longer runs as it is too big for around town and for parking spaces at Tesco, community centre etc, even the disabled ones!

Does anyone know what gearbox fluid i need for the 407? I am intending doing 3 changes starting soon, as its 10 years old even though its sealed for life. Over the next few weeks its getting a remap, booked for next monday, gearbox oil change, engine oil and filters change and MOT. I hope i can manage that all, my hands are not good just now. I was supposed to be getting treatment last week which would have helped but it got postponed and wont be for another 10 to 12 weeks now.

It's an Aisin Warner gearbox in that car.

The oil for the 2.7 (different from the 3.0 HDi) needs to meet JWS3309 specifications. The 3.0 needs to meet JWS3324 specs.

I buy the stuff for the 3.0 HDi's from GSF when I get a 50% discount code from them at the weekends. I'm probably a bit anal with it now, I tend to do a 3 litre change when I do the oil and filter

Have a read of this thread: viewtopic.php?t=56346

This stuff claims to meet the specs: http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Citro ... &0&cc5_869

However it is very cheap for 5 litres, it's usually around a tenner a litre.

Ok so i have just ordered 2 x 5 litres of that to do the gearbox, and oil and filters for the engine. Along with the remap that should significantly improve the car, and i know what is done. I shall then have to save for timing belt kit, im presuming at 10 years old and 81k its due on age if possibly not on mileage. Then later in the summer the 205 will get a service. I know when everything on it was changed, the lady kept a very detailed handwritten sheet of every penny spent on the car apart from petrol. I know the oil and filters are 1 year old, but not done 1000 miles yet, and the plugs are 2 years and about 1200 miles old! Cambelt 5 years and about 7000 miles. So no real maintainance needed there!

Speak to your local dealer.

Citroen dealers do a fixed price cambelt for £300. On the 2.7 the water pump isn't timing belt driven if memory serves me right so don't worry too much about it not being included in the cambelt change.

I know a couple of members from C6 owners have had theirs done at the dealers under the fixed price agreement.

It's a hell of a deal though, £300 including parts to change the belt must be costing them money I'd of thought.

I would think they are losing at that. I do have quite a good relationship with my nearest peugeot dealer, they are also authorised citroen dealers. If they do it for 300 quid they have the job!

Well i may not own the german/spanish hybrid much longer. I was chatting to a guy last night 30 odd miles away from me thats selling a car trailer, which is on a shopping list of shaun and some of his chums. I hapbened to mention i had a seat leon I was away to advertise, and it turns out he is actively looking for a cheap leon mk2 diesel for his sister. So a deal has been struck verbally which sees me get money back after 4 months. So my job today has been wirebrush the surface rust off the sills, treat them, stonechip them and two coats of smooth black hammerite. Total cost, maybe a few pence for the wire brush on the grinder, and the car already looks better. If its dry tomorrow then it will get a wash and quick colour coded polish as i found a bottle of it in the shed.

It is actually a decent enough car Jim. A bit plasticky inside but a lot more comfortable than the golf it is underneath. And incredibly economical. Anything from the VAG stable, espically in diesel form sells quick and for decent money here. I dont know why! They are no better or no worse than anything else. All cars have their good points and bad points. It has stood up well to 184000 miles.

I think it's just be cause it's seen as German and therefore high quality Davie...

And not forgetting that there is some odd kudos in running a German car...
