They probably used a joining pin instead of a link Jim, possibly even just pushed a normal link into the chain which isn't as hard as you'd think with a really good chain tool.

example of joining pin Which you push through then snap off the protruding end.

Thought chains for derailleur mech was always 'endless' - split link only for single speed, otherwise it gets in the way. You just need a chain splitter Slip the chain onto the rear most set of lugs so the back is held, then screw in the handle to push one of the rivets out. If you want to re-use be careful not put push it right out, as getting them re-started is a mare! New chains normally come with the rivet in the outside plate. Link the chain over the back lugs and push the rivet back in. You will now find that that the link is a bit stiff - but this is easily fixed, put the tool on the other side of the chain, but put the stiff link on the lugs in the middle, then gently push the rivet back just a fraction. This will separate the plates and make it flex again. You'll need a chain splitter anyway to get the old one off - unless you ride it till it breaks!!

These are photos of xantia on resolfens that I found before I got mine. My wheels have 205/50 x17 at the moment, but will get changed to 215/45 x17 when the time comes. With the tyres on at the moment when on low suspension the tyre is against the fuel filler pipe.i was comparing tyre rolling radius today, 205/60 15 is the same rolling radius as 215/45 x17 to within 2mm. 205/50 x17 is 7mm more than the 15's So the 215/5 will be a better fit. Which is good, as I have two new uniroyal 215 on the wolfrace wheels which have done less than 1000 miles on the back of this car already. So they will get swapped over in the near future, I will run the bugger 205 on the front until I can afford another two uniroyal.

I see and understand exactly with you say about chains on derailleur mechs Richard and it makes sense but no, these days all [replacement] chains are now joined with a split link - even to the point we carry one in our saddle bags as a spare!

I'm all tooled up with a good chain splitter ;)

Davie, I have to say those wheels look so much better on a silver car than they do on a red car... On a red car they just don't work as well for some reason...

The xantia performed well on its 800 mile outing to Durham last weekend. It was seen by two other xantia owners who both seemed to approve of its c4 wheels. I'm playing a bit with fuel. I'm the way down, it averaged 25.8 mpg on esso superplus unleaded that it usually gets. I filled at an asda, normal unleaded about 15p a litre less than I usually pay and averaged 28.9 mpg with the same useage on the way home. I filled again with Sainsbury unleaded before home, I ly used 1/2 of it and not filled again yet. I noticed no difference in the car running normal supermarket unleaded or esso super. It doesn't really do that many miles so it will continue to ger esso at my local petrol station, but just get normal.

I did notice on my trip though a possible problem. Sitting in heavy traffic in the centre of Edinburgh I think I am developing the activa shuffle. Just ever so slight but maybe needing investigation. I'm never sitting still in it usually. No traffic jams in this part of the world! My exhaust is also nearing the and of its life, the back box is rusted through and blowing. I haven't priced one yet, I expect it will be expensive as I get its activa specific. Or will one of the v6 ones be compatible? I may go to a local exhaust place which has a good reputation and price a stainless steel replacement. I'm not in a hurry yet though.

The berlingo has developed a huge clonking/rattling from the rear. I investigated it yesterday as well as a quick oil and filters change. It has a very recent reconditioned rear axle so I wondered if maybe a nut has come loose. No all nuts as tight as when fitted. I used the original shocks when putting the axle on, when the weight is off them there is very slight play in one so I have ordered 2 new shocks and hope this sorts it. The only other thing on the back not renewed are the hubs and wheelbearing but the wheels are turning smoothly and there is no play so don't think there is a problem there.

Due to the noise of the berlingo I have been two g the 107 for local stuff. It's went from doing 700 miles a month to near zero! Shaun is using his civic type r all the time untill he sorts out his skoda. The 107 just continues to do what it should, but now me being used to turbos boy is it slow really! Still good for what they are but I would rather be in the berlingo. I said to Shaun would ha be as well selling it, but his answer was it is high mileage, needs some paintwork so he wouldn't get much for it and for what it costs to keep it taxes and insured then he will keep it. Doesn't cost me a penny apart from petrol so it's his and he can do what he wants!

Great to hear it was a good trip and the Activa was good :D

Sorry to hear about the Berlingo. Hope the new shocks sorts it...

The exhaust is totally different to the V6 Davie... Although TCT Activa-specific they are freely available but I'd get a local exhaust place to fit it once you've sourced one....

That's just the job. It's not often said where Citroens are concerned but good when it is ;)

Well I've been using the 107 most of the time due to blingos rattles and the 107 just works!

Funny I always wanted a Blingo. Has to be a 2.0hdi Desire with aircon and Modutop though. :-) But when I looked there was never anything available at the right price/condition. Then as soon as I get a car there's loads for sale! Always the way.

Just to change the subject slightly Davie. On the Synergie's you drove how was the steering? A bit heavy or light?

I can't recall thinking anything specifically about the steering on any of them which kind of makes me think there was no problems or anything unexpected about them. And mileage differed between them from 25000 miles on my own first pug 806 1.9td to over 300000 on another 806, a 2.0hdi. I think I have owned 3 myself, and driven another 4 or 5 as taxis. There was one needed a steering rack at well over 200 and another chewed front tyres, I would have thought the taxi owner would have done the alignment on it when Michelins only lasted 8000 miles, approx 5 to 6 weeks!
