The idea of something like a c6 with huge road tax appeals as I won't be paying the tax which over a few years would make it a very cheap car [emoji4]

I've had a couple of journeys from Trainman, and really like them although I'm not so keen on the external looks. But then I will be inside looking out lol. However I would be struggling to manage to have the cash to buy one.

I've only ever seen about 2 of them up here. I can't remember the last time I saw one on the road apart from when I've been down at meets. I can't see it happening really!

I'm just about returned to the land of living. Enough to get the xantia up on ramps for a look. I found the green leak Image
There are two pipes going into this sphere, the one nearest the engine was the culprit. Nearly a full turn to get it tight, hopefully that has cured it. Cleaned all the oil off the bottom of the engine, it was everywhere! I then tapped all over the bottom of the car, it looks like the only welding needed will be the left side door shut, and the underside of the sill at the front of the drivers side. I poked about it and it's not that much really and from what I could see and feel with a screwdriver it's only the outer sill. It then got delivered to the welder, he will hopefully get it done in the next day or two. I hope he makes a meet job. I've seen his work, he buys old transits and fixes them up and sells them, so from dealing with old transits he will be a good welder lol. Not that I am saying that transits rust [emoji15] So I will then get the mot done and the couple bits of paint then see what to do.

It's always a relief when it's something simple!

The night before I went to the Northern 2 years ago I found LHM pouring out of my Activa ram. Thankfully the return pipe had popped out of the spigot on the ram. I popped it back in and put a small cable tie around it and it's been fine since :) Relieved was an understatement.

All those pipes presumably we're removed to get to the gearbox when the clutch was done. I suppose with it being a citroen it needs to slacken pipes for fun and to keep the owner on his toes! Bloody car could have waited until I was for to crawl about looking for it, not when I have sciatica!! Pleased it was just a slack joint though.

Hope you're all enjoying the rally[emoji4]
My berlingo is now mobile again, it wasn't nearly so bad putting the new axle on compared to taking it off. Would I do the job again? Probably not. IM axles sell the axle for £250 with £50 delivery, or £50 fitted, they claim a 2 hour turnaround. It would cost me £50 derv to drive down then home again. I have my mate £50 for giving up two Saturdays. So if I ever need another pug/cit rear axle I will have a road trip.

The activa has some of the rust cut out. The hole in the drivers side front will has gone through the inner will and into the floor. All rot is cut out and new metal grafted in. He asked me if I wanted a quick get it am mot or a good job. It's getting a good job. There's two little bits at the back of each sill, not a problem, and he hasn't started the door shut yet. I would expect the inner sill to need work too. Maybe I shall know on Monday.

Sounds like the rust was of greater extent than was immediately apparent Davie..

Pleased it's having a good job done and excellent news on the Berlingo :D

There's absolutely no point in doing bodge jobs. They just have to be done again. I learned that a long time ago on the boats. We would bodge something at sea to let us finish off our trip or to get us home, but as soon as we got into the harbour then got the right part to fix it, or get the professionals down to fix properly. I'm trying to ensure that if all welding necessary is done properly just now that it won't need a welding torch again for a long time, regardless of if I keep it or sell it.

I had a 50 mile round trip in the berlingo last night, I can hardly believe the difference in the ride quality with the new axle! Not quite xantia smoothness, but not far off and vastly better than the jap scrap micra I have been using. I'm glad I went for a recon axle and not a scrappy one, that may not have been much better than the one which came off.
