Especially if they have live outside/sun/used, cracks are the tip of the "carbonised" iceberg.

Lots of the "over there" guys run 17inch wheels and most seem to choose the Conti Prem Contact tyres (I hated them @15/60 but that was flex in the larger side wall)

This was my tool of choice today after the heavy rain of the morning passed.Image
And this is what it did.

So the door shuts. Drivers side is actually fine and needs no welding, just a proper rub down and paint. The passenger side certainly does need welding, I'm not doing any more to it. Got all the surface rust off the towbar too. 1 tin of silver hammerite later the towbar and door shuts are painted with 2 coats. I'm impressed with the colour match of the hammerite to the car! I just need a chance to wash and polish it now, before it gets a long trek on thursday/friday!

I'm home and in my bed. The first time I have been in a bed for 40 hours! I enjoyed the national immensely. It's a pity that the activa decided that it would like a new wheelbearing on the way down. Apart from that it went faultlessly, averaging 31.5 mpg over the whole trip of 1250 miles! I had a chance to drive an activa that is not tweaked, and there is more difference in power delivery than I thought there would be. The owner of the other car is now pondering whether to do the same to his. Another activa owner who did not have his with him was suitably impressed and says he has something to aim for sorting his out! I chucked the keys to Chris who owned the car previously to me, and watched him and his dad going out the gate in it, then thought, oh no! He might not want to give it back! All was well though, he came back a little later with a smile on his face saying it is still as good as ever.i met a few folk I already knew, and quite a few I had never met before. All in all a good weekend.

So the activa needs a wheelbearing. This could be problematical, as those of you who followed Jim's blog of doing my clutch knows, the driveshafts will not come out of the hub, so that could mean I have to get a hub and a driveshaft to get this done. And with the usual activa, v6 and hdi 110 being different from the rest, could pose a problem getting the bits. Hope not.

I also kind of tried it out for being a mini camper, and failed! I intended coming all the way home on Sunday night as I had to be home on Monday afternoon. I got as far as between Perth and Dundee and had to stop or I was in big danger of falling asleep at the wheel. I stretched my legs, sat in the back, and fell asleep for 4 hours! So that's yhy I now need sleep!

When I got home I found out Shaun was away with the 107 to his work. When he got ho e I found out the reason. He has blown the turbo on the skoda, which he has done nothing with since I bodged the front end of together, and has yet to do anything to his honda mot fail of 4 weeks ago. So him and me have had a bit of a discussion with the result that I am no longer going to have anything to do with it, and he starts paying his full board and lodgings. The deal was I ran it as mine, he did not pay board. This is the 4th time he has renegaded on his side of the deal, as I can't use it as and when I want if he keeps taking it back. So from now on it is his. So that leaves me needing a work hack. Something running veg would be good, even better if it were auto. Think it's hens teeth time then! Away to sleep on it...

Delighted the Activa performed well and you enjoyed the National Davie :D Yes, the manual boost controller mod makes a heck of a difference... It was driving Dean's and yours at a rally a few years back now that finally convinced me it was a good mod...

Wheel bearings often complain after a major disturbance. Had it happen a few times now...

Now, my recommendation would be to procure a complete hub and replacement driveshaft to obviate the issues I had as I don't think the old driveshafts can be guaranteed to be got out without damage... Any 2.1TD, 110HDi or MANUAL V6 will provide driveshafts and any of the above including a V6 Auto will provide hubs but do put a new bearing in though...

If it the LH side, which I think you said it was on FB then that's going to be OK as that side has been completely in bits recently so will come apart easily... No so the RH side which I only partially dismantled enough to pull the shaft back and swap discs...

I'd be tempted to do both as once one side goes it's not long before the other does usually...

Check the old and new driveshafts have the same number of ABS ring teeth

Shaun is being very irresponsible with his cars... He needs to learn the hard way and what you are doing is right...

All the best in fining a good runaround...

Yes, I'm surprised it lasted so long. It still has a bodged front end from its excursion into a park. I'm using the Nissan micra I bought for a friend who still wants it but not quite yet. I've made a deal with shaun and the 107. He can use it exclusively and pay me board and lodgings at a weekly rate until he fixes his cars. He had to learn that dad is not going to do stuff for him, if he wrecks his cars by not looking after them then he suffers the consequences. That's why I'm looking for a 205 STDT to use for my daily and he can do what he wants with the 107 and it won't be insured for him either. He can learn the hard way, and if he doesn't like paying me every week for rent, electricity, gas, and internet then he can f### off and live somewhere else. He is nearly 22, time he learned.

Well if he wrecks the 107 it's on him. It's not far from a clutch, so if he knackers it then he fixes it. And if I get the 205 I'm bidding on on the good old bay of e then he finds the 107 uninsured as it will be transferred. And the farthest he can have the activa is from the drive to the street id he needs to move it. And he has to ask the code for it first!
