Well Evilally, Well worth checking it then...

I had a bad crank sensor on a HDi, it wouldn't go at all! I cant see how a mechanical Engine would need a crank sensor to fire.. Its completely mechanical with a Roatry Timed injection pump... :-k

I know the rev-counter did not work before i had the clutch done then again the clutch was smashed to pieces and needed a new arm.
The smoke is not oil smoke smells like an HGV with an heavy load on.

My knowledge is several years old, but I am sure that the rev counter was driven off the alternator. This was on a BX 1.9 diesel NA. When the brushes failed the rev counter stopped working. When I replaced the brushes the rev counter started working again.

On the later engines, from XUD onwards, the rev counter had its own TDC sensor in the back of the bell housing, so it wasnt driven off the altinator... even later BX had this setup..

Anyway, the DW8 TDC sensor I think drives the rev counter on these later engines.

Thats why Im not convinced its TDC sensor, if it was then the engine would NOT start at all, as theres no reference to the Pistion Position which is what it does... So Im not convinced its TDC sensor..

The Engine starts fine for a moment...

On an electronically timed XUD at least, the engine will start and run with the crank sensor disconnected, just not very well.

Had a bit of a flare up Sunday/Monday could not use my right arm  so when i am up to it will try another crank-sensor and at least i can mark off my list.

And reading through my posts forgot to say my EML is on all the time.

Thanks all again.
