this is the problem with having a manually adjusted cable on a modern car. People don't know what they are! The clutch over stroking through the cable being too tight is probably what breaks the driving straps on the pressure plate. It's very common on Fiestas (although they're hydraulic)when the clutches have been in for a long time and the clutch is basically being pushed too far. The answer? auto adjust cable, but then they don't work very well either!
