Re: Project lowrider

Post by Jeth »

I've seen failed front struts few times in my mechanic days, and i know the risks, which is why i dont need a lecture about it.

Do you think that im worried about my sump smashing to the ground ;) it already has.

Sorry Jeth, I wasn't meaning to lecture you.

I have an idea which might help, but I don't know if there is another issue (which I will come to). Fit a pair of strong rings per strut, one on top of the flange, and the other at the bottom, where the strut top flange would normally sit. These should help to spread the load to that originally designed. If the rings and bolts are strong enough then the safety issues should be addressed.

However, when the steering wheel is turned, the strut top moves around (but you know this). Obviously this was allowed for in the original design, but now, with the strut top mounted higher, I wonder if the strut is getting close to the sides of the cavity (possibly contacting and limiting the steering).

maybe you should chuck away the citroen suspension and swap it for pug 405, then lower that,
Why do people install air suspensions to cars? To lower it and to get it comfortable when wanted.

Whats the point of having 405 suspension when you can have hydraulics?

Im starting to feel that most of you think that if my citroen isn't comfortable, then i should drive something else :D

For christs sake i've modified a BX, which is REALLY suprising at my country and especially at my age (23), i've made it look like "me", yet you want me to swap it for a peugeot?

I really thought that people would've liked to see a BX which has been made something different, especially on a french car forum... Atleast i've kept it clean, and im not going to do any huge fiberglass bumpers or anything, keeping it somewhat original, inside and out, just lower. Why is that so bad?

try driving a 2CV with the suspension higher or lower than it is supposed to be
Been there done that.
As we all have said, yup nice idea and great project! I like the look of my CX when its slammed

Your project just needs a bit more thought, you may be convincing yourself it is safe enough but the weight of the car is on the threads of those nuts and bolts. (car manufacturers would do it that way, if it was the away)
In your own experience and words you have seen failed struts, yet you have come up with something that could result with the same conclusion.
I don't care that your sump is bent or what colour your letter box is :) What I do care about, is the front of your car digging in the road causing you to loose control, best case senario you write it off without injury and the worst case sees a seemingly bright young lad and posibly others killed. That is what is so bad.. in my opinion anyways

Oooooh! Thats Your CX! I remember seeing pictures years ago of it and Loving it!

Re OP, is there no way of a strong bracket that looks like the back of a speaker basket for want of a better expression, enlarge the original hole to fit but spread the load out as it should??

I love the look of low valvers, when i ran mine on the 17's i added a notch on the height controller in between low and normal to bring the height down nicely and tuck the back wheel in ;-)

pop over to http://www.bx16valve.co.uk/forum" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for the home of valvers! (if the link doesn't work, take out the /forum as sometimes it redircts off randomly ;-) theres a link on the home page to the forum)

Project has been sitting still for few months now, but this week im starting to fix it for summer drives.

To-do list:

- Replace drivers side brake caliper
- Fix bumpers from scratches etc
- Fix leaking water hose
- Change oil + filter
- Few minor hydraulic leaks
- Install a cover for sump to eliminate further damage

Here's another picture from NPS Big Meet 2012

Oh and here's my daily driver. It's dirty I know..

Image

"only" 260miles on the clock

Fully stock 2.0HDi 110hp (and im keeping it that way)

Only modification done is changed original head unit for VDO Dayton (don't remember which, but sound is awesome compared to Kenwood KDC-BT6544UY i have in BX) and changed front speakers to Rainbow SL-C6.2

Doing some dampening on the front doors when i get the mood for it.
