Sounds like my HDi has had an easy life with only 115,000 on it. The 1.6 306 has 138,000 and is burning a bit of oil now, although using no water and is mayonaise free!

I had a TDi Alhambra a while back and you could feel all of the 202k it had done. It had a snapped spring and no oil pressure for first 5 seconds. That age TDi was no match for the same age HDi in my Xantia.

BMW Petrol engines are mustard, they will withstand high mileage if the same regular service/care is applied.

My old 1990 BMW 318is E30 had 155,987 on it before I broke the car up due to tin worm. I sold the engine and drivetrain to a chap on the south coast who put it in a 316 touring which as far as I know is still going strong!

Unless you have the 150bhp BMW engine that's in the DS3 Dsport, as that's had lots of problems and in fact the Mini has as well?!!

Should have said really the older stuff, I don't know alot about the new stuff but I have heard some of them aren't as good as the ones they built in the 80's & 90's. I have two E30's, now they are proper cars! Not many left now as age has caught up with the bodywork on most :(

Here is my E30 engine bay, part-way through an engine swap, some may notice it isn't a standard six that the E30 came with :) I am not 100% sure of the mileage of the engine but it runs and sounds sweet as a nut 8-)

Funny when these Joint Ventures Happen!

My mate had someone visit them in a 407 HDi.. He question'd him about the 407 (Mate has a 2.1 SED XM) and his response was Pah, thats got a BMW engine in it!

I had to correct my mate, and tell him he is talking balls! Its Peugeot / BMW engine, but more a Peugeot engine then BMW...

That is also the case with the 1.6 Turbo engine.. Peugeots engine which BMW fit to the mini.. But again, was a Joint design between the two companies..

Why do people think BMW have a higher profile! They may be ok.. but not everything is theirs!!

ive had a 96 bmw m3 evo, 321 bhp etc etc, i hated it, yes it was smooth and fast but nothing special, uncomfortable and to tail happy for everyday use.....then had a 2003 330se, to harsh on the rd, very hard ride, again nothing special, bmw does not impress me in the lightest.... my old focus st170 with a powerworks supercharger conversion, rs gearbox and quaiffe lsd on the other hand was absolutley epic, 306 bhp and ate m3's and 911s for breakfast......

Indeed, there is a joint partnership between PSA and BMW for some of the engines, called the Prince Engines.

The NA 1.6 (EP6) is used in the Bini Cooper, C3, DS3, C4, C3 Picasso, Pug 308, Pug 3008, Pug 207 etc...

The Turbo 1.6 (EP6DT for 150THP) is in C4, Pug 308, Pug 508 etc etc...

My C4 has the NA 1.6 16v engine and IMO is far superior to the TU 1.6 16v engine that is fitted to the pre-facelift car C4 that I used to run.
