Good work Paul!
What happens if your in neutral and try and engage while doing say 50 and holding some revs on the engine and take off the accel pedal?

Don't touch the clutch Paul
put of gear, rolling at speed and bring the revs up and try and engage it
it will then automatically try and hold the revs and start picking them up if it's programmed much like the xm 2.5 system which I bet it will be..

Tried the rolling engagement. . No. What it does is I flicked the lever and the revs barely moved. The rev counted litterally just flicked to 1025rpm and hack idle.. and by flicked I mean flicked so it didnt even rev. Clever thing knows if its in gear or not.

It wont work well from idle. you need to have the revs matched to the speed for it to work right but it sounds like its working just like the XM 2.5 system
Not surprising really

At least you know whats the likely cause now and it might be worth seeing if something can be used to clean them out or if they are just duff. Maybe some dirt is getting past the filter in some way?
Maybe time to think about using the 2.1td on veg more and giving up on the hdi....

Sorry to hear this Paul, I'm sure you’ll soon have it sorted.
Will, you may be onto the right track there. The HDi wants a rest and is trying to tell you Paul to get an XM back on the road so the HDi can rest for a while...

Just have to ask your wife for some weekend time Paul
sometimes family time has to be reduced a little once in a while to get things sorted
