It seems to me that you wouldn't have benefitted from an "econometer" either then Reffro?

BX TZD Turbo Estate gets 45MPG no matter how its driven. My mate had a F reg DTR Turbo which did the same, again, how it was driven made no difference.
I bought the red car to break up for bits for mine, and that had 188,000; and still good engine, bar a trashed Turbo.
Mine has 81,000 and still goes well. Nice to have a fast, ecomonical work slug! Love it!

'98 Xantia SX TD 85K miles (Barely run in[:D])
Best: 53.2mpg, worst: 38.3, average 43
Greatest distance on one tank: 623miles
(I've also kept a spreadsheet, having had it since new. Total running cost is frightening, £13,200 [:0] - That's everything, tax, diesel, servicing, insurance, etc. etc. I can't bear to think about depreciation, probably another £13K [:(][:(])

Another update on this popular topic (See below). As petrol Xantia's go, I'm average it seems. Not paying too much or too little on fuel - just the going rate - eek.

Citroen XM 2.5 TD Saloon 158K miles - about 39MPG on fast A-roads/M-way work so far. Great mile cruncher - get around 700 miles per 3/4 tank (try not to let it go below 1/4 tank due to crap that may be lurking in tank - water, etc.). Mostly Shell and Esso. Might try some veggy oil and chips (twice) [:p]
Other car - Fiat Coupe 20V turbo (slightly quicker [:D]), about 28-29 MPG in town work/some m-way. 3/4 tank will give me 300 miles. Diet of Shell Optimax only.
All the best

I too given up working out mpg on my AX as the indicator jumps from 3/4 to 1/4 alarmingly quickly but takes a good 70 miles to fall below being full! I do know that having put a injector cleaner through it, it is running smoother and at the last fill up it cost £15 having done 200 miles. I find Tesco petrol best, but normally use BP
PS Don't knock our little AXs. They are great fun and would be extremly safe if it weren't for sporty car druvers on the road [}:)]

My Xantia VSX 2.0 8V -93 has an (1 year) average consumption of about 7,5-8 l/100km, which makes 30-28 mpg?
The other car, stated as our FunFactor-car, BX Sport with double carburators goes with from 8 litres per 100km up to 10 l/100km - it really depends on the driving style.
My first post to this forum. Cheers, great forum you got here.

MY Xantia TD used to manage 550 miles to a tank of veg oil, and in my opinion seemed livlier on it.
Mixed with a little pump diesel this has got to be the way forward...75p a litre, I don't think so!!
FOC from my local KFC!
And yes, of course I pay the duty officer...Honest!

My 95 Xantia 1.9TD has 159K on the clock and turns in 50-55 mpg week in week out. (almost identical to the 1.9 BX I had before it)

Just a quick note for our continental friends, if you want the convert l/100km into mpg, just divide 282.16 by your car's litre/100km figure.
So for 9l/100km - 282.16/9 = 31.35mpg

I have heard that there is American and English gallons? I have used 235 as a divider, so is that in American gallons?
Maybe just next time I use only the familiar l/100km... [8D] Sorry for off-topic.
