Plus you'd have to disconnect the drop link and that may entail use of an angel grinder and thus the destruction of an otherwise perfect drop link...
ok
i had forgotten about the drop link bracket

i'll go sit in the naughty corner

Nah, not the naughty corner (you didn't suggest it to cause a problem), just the silly prats' corner (once I get out of it!).

As far as I can tell, the seniors on this forum usually know what they are doing, how to fix problems, or where to find the information to get things working. They don't have time for senior moments!

Unfortunately - or fortunately depending on your viewpoint, no Malcolm.
It is of the order Sphenisciformes, family Spheniscidae as with Jim's and for similar reasons.

I've heard a rumour about where the senior moment corner is. What's the name of your local, CitroJim? The Plough, isn't it?

Sorry to make a post about the topic (highly irregular i know) BUT the best way by far that i've found is to remove the strut top (for inspection as previously suggested) and then fit the piston into the strut top and do up the nut a few turns and then put the strut top back. saves mucking about really.

Well got them fitted. Thanks for all the help and laughs! Needed a bit of help holding the wheel straight whilst pushing the piston back up but apart from that all went to plan. Good job I replaced both gaiters as though the pasenger side looked fine once I started to remove it it crumbled in my hands. Strut tops looked OK but the bump stops are a little worn so I'll replace those at some point and check the strut tops again.

Thanks again.
