hmm thanks Adam..
tubes much money? will / should i renew that cable (passenger side) as well, or can i get away with a clean up.. guess I will get it off first and make a plan..
The mot center had a very cool portable ramp.. 3 phase I think, but very handy for the day when I have a little more headroom.. about 2m tall I think..

The tubes seem to show up on Fleabay quite often, I don't know how that would go for your re-test timeframe. There's a pair up now, £32 plus post. I'd probably renew and pump them solid with Wurth copper grease (won't melt with exhaust heat) once the inners were fitted.
For something to get crusty in Australia after five years, you know it's a crap design.

before you buy anything check the auto adjust ,i took mine for the mot nothing at all showing for the ns .checked the arm on the caliper was in the forward position, you then sit with your foot on the brake and pull the handbrake on and off at least 6 times.this does the adjustment it worked on mine passed the mot free fix

Cables (not handed) are £36.66 each and tubes (handed) £19.63 each from Citroen.... Dunno why they chose to do it like that rather than like the Xantia

Re: C5 seat belt retraction
thanks all.. got a cable from euroCP for 25.. will get the one tube and do the job on Sat.. may take some piccies for those that havent done this job yet...
Mr tickle.. the handbrake has always felt wrong when letting the lever go down to the floor, completely slack.. so (as its the only cost of the MOT), happy to get parts first before taking a closer look hope the drivers side is ok, passed the test fine..
will report back
John

If you take the plastic trim off - the seat belts retract fine?? - I guess the springs aren't strong enough and slacken over time

Re: C5 seat belt retraction
thanksAndy.. wil try that when I get a second free
update.. car passed mot retest on Tuesday morning.. the handbrake took about4 hours in the end! it went well and wasnt that difficult but it's a time consuming job without a ramp.. really need the whole car high up, on stands, not just the front..
handbrake feels much better now, lever has some spring in it to.. I removed the caliper mount and cleaned and greased it while I was there.
all good
