Re: My Xantia needs knowledgable help!
Well, I am putting the rear disc replacement on hold until I have treated them to a weeks' worth of Plus Gas. However, I need a bit of advice on a different item.
Thanks to BA-CAM, I now have a replacement drivers' seat belt. I know how to fit the inertia reel (having replaced a side airbag ECU), I think I have worked out the bit where it goes onto the adjustor (remove triangular clip cover, and probably a nut), but I am not sure about where it fits onto the seat. Access to that point is obscured by the plastic seat trim. How easy is it to move that out of the way? I have had a look, but I cannot see how to gain access to the belt fitting.

Re: My Xantia needs knowledgable help!
It's dead easy Alastair
At the top, pop off the triangular plastic cap and a special 17mm bolt will be exposed... The cap just clips on and often can be popped with fingers only although a blunt tool may be needed.
Ditto with the seat. Pop off the trim on the base of the seat - the bit where you can see the seatbelt disappear into - and again you'll see the belt terminates in a triangular buckle and secured to the seat with another variety of 17mm bolt.
Beware that the two bolts are different and that they have a set of special washers and spacers on them. Take careful note of the washer and spacer arrangement as these are critical to allow the belt buckles to freely rotate on the bolts which act as pivots as well as anchors..

Re: My Xantia needs knowledgable help!
Just playing with my Lexia, and learnt something new, and a (possible) problem I need advice on.
Some time ago I had to replace the nearside airbag ECU (thanks to CitroJim for finding the fault, and mirafioriman for supplying a replacement). The warning light went out, and I thought that was an end of the problem. However, last time I did a global diagnostic, when it hit left airbag it returned no dialogue (but the warning light was not lit). Today, as I had time, I went deeper into this, and found (under protection) some diagnostics per airbag. I looked at all three, checked for faults, and ran (on the side bags) the actuator tests (which lit the warning light at the relevant point). Later on I ran the global test, and now there is a dialogue with the left airbag ECU. This would indicate that, for a replacement airbag ECU to be available you cannot just replace it, you have to electronically test it (hitting it once with a hammer is NOT needed, addo!).
However, while I was running some basic tests, I found something that I need help on. When I ran the slow speed fan test, both fans were turning. However, when I ran the high speed test, only the nearside fan was turning. This has me bemused (well, it would, wouldn't it?). I think this means a relay is faulty, but I don't know enough to guess. The fact that both fans turn at low speed would suggest they both work (unless there are different windings for the different speeds, but I doubt that!). Any suggestions, please?

Re: My Xantia needs knowledgable help!
You are being timid with the discs, its all in the hammer technique
Your fan problem is related to the relays, there are a group of three located centrally above and between the fans, accessed from the front, if they are working at all then the motors are fine.

Re: My Xantia needs knowledgable help!
Hi James NOT Alistair,
I'm sure I saw a thread response recently, but can't now find it, which highlighted an interesting anomaly when using Lexia to actuate the radiator fans.
If I remember correctly under the conditions you describe the Lexia activation caused only one fan to run at high speed but when checking without Lexia intervention pulling the plug off the temp sensor on the thermostat housing caused BOTH fans to run at high speed.
Curious or what ?
Hope my memory is not playing tricks.

Re: My Xantia needs knowledgable help!
You can actuator test the radiator fans on a Xantia with a Lexia ? Not on mine you can't, at least nowhere I can find... Is that something specific to an HDi ?

Yes, it is HDi Specific...
James, most interesting on the airbag ECUs - a very good find sir!
On the fans, that may well be just a sticky relay in the trio under the cover between the fans..
If you’d like the HDi-specific circuits just shout...
Brakes: you can always come and do it here and I'll show you how to use a hammer! Not this weekend though...

Re: My Xantia needs knowledgable help!
Well, certainly on Gracie I can test the fans! The way I did it is this;
At the screen for either "Test by Function" or "Global Test", select "Test by Function". Then go through the engine selection screens, until it comes up with a list of various tests. Select "Actuator Tests", and "Cooling Fan Unit Test" is one of the options I found.
I hope this is of use.

Re: My Xantia needs knowledgable help!
Can anybody advise me on what type of grease I should use on the struts? She sometimes groans when she drops a bit, not often, just sometimes. I am currently using CV grease, as it has moly lube (IIRC somebody said use moly on struts).
The strut tops themselves appear sound and solid ( I checked them when I was greasing the struts), and the gaiters were a secure fit.

Re: My Xantia needs knowledgable help!
I have found this on e-bay;
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/400540781108? ... 1423.l2649" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
and while it says that it is compatible with Gracie, I would like to be sure. The last VIN 8 digits are 72379326.
They also do kits for other Xantias so it could be worth giving them a look.
