if it were the wiring at fault i would think the central locking either would not function at all, or lock and unlock immoderately,
im fairly certain it would not lock then unlock a while later on,

this is more likely to be water ingress into the locking system

I have come across this problem on both of my 306s, it is usually a break in the door loom wiring. The most comprehensive solution is to replace the door loom, which is a joke unless you are an automotive electrical specialist. The most practical solution to the problem is to short the central locking actuator sensors, don't worry it is easier than it sounds.

If your central locking unit is different to the one pictured with a single larger connector you short the same 'M' number coded wires, I would need to go out to the car to find out what wires they are though.

The looms are not too bad to do if you pull it into the car. I made a serious mistake on the first one I ever did as I cut it off in one go. It took ages for me to sort the only good thing was I cut it at an angle so by comparing the lengths of the cables it was possible to tell what went where, eventually.

They could of fixed this at shape change (97) as it was more or less known about then. The fix would of been to put the 'connector' on the 'A' pillar like many other models so if it ever did break it would be a simple door loom unplug and swap.
