Xantia V6 broken exhaust (update: and rough low rpm running)

I would think the broken mirror would fail. Pop along to a halfords and you will get a mirror glass that will stick over the broken one, job done easily.

I think if the car was a keeper I'd just get the proper glass that James linked to and fit it - then I don't have to do it again later.

James: that second one you linked to says does not fit 52 reg ? Is 52 reg a S1 or S2 ?

52 reg would be an S2, but I don't think they made Xantias that late.

As it shows from 93 to 01 I would assume that covers the whole Xantia range. I don't know when Citroen stopped making the Xantia, but I would be very surprised if they didn't clear down the remaining stock.

EDIT, just re-read your query, and checked the e-bay posting. I wonder if Citroen ran out of mirror units before they ran out of bodies, and used a different design of mirror units to finish off with?

£530 - not a bad price for 65k miles I think, assuming that the car is otherwise basically sound. (Although getting it back up here and taxing it will cost a bit)

I'm not sure really, a combination of factors. Partly another possible lead turning out to be a dead end, partly me giving myself a slap for thumbing my nose at a 65k one owner Xantia V6 because of a few scratches and a small dent, (after this scratched up problem child - I must be kidding myself! ) and largely due to Trainman's very generous offer to help retrieve it back to a more manageable distance - without that the logistics were just too impractical for me, especially with such short notice to make a decision.

I really hope its a keeper, being low mileage I may well keep it for a number of years if its in good nick and runs well. I guess we'll find out next week!

But seriously, I'll definitely be bringing it around for a visit and to go for a run in it.

When I get it step one is to fix the wing mirror and take it for an MOT, assuming that is successful it'll get a service including a gearbox oil change next month. The gearbox might be low mileage but now is the time to start treating it to yearly (?) oil changes to keep it nice and healthy...(I currently do about 5k a year, so yearly should be quite conservative)

Simon, while this blog is over 130 pages it CERTAINLY isn't a disaster thread. You do tend to go on a bit (look at the pot who is calling the kettle black!), but most of it is informative, to the point where you clearly explain how you did what you did, as well as explaining what didn't work. Good luck with the new V6, and I hope that it is everything you want AND need in a car (other than a reason to practise your spannering skills!).

Now there's a thought - see if you can get the hairs on the back of Richards neck standing up in the V6 Activa. The only thing is I'm not sure there are any suitable roundabout's in Lanark...
