Re: Rusty sills on ZX

Post by the_weaver »

I'll have a good look at the rusty sills when I get a chance.

I've been thinking about what car I would buy, if I was going to buy another car, instead of getting this one fixed. The answer is.... a Xsara 1.9D. I could keep my ZX for spares, rather than scrapping it.

I've been hanging onto the ZX because the engine is so good, and I like driving the car, but the bodywork is looking dated. The Xsara looks quite modern though. It's amazing how good the paintwork looks on those cars. I really like the shape of the Xsara as well, which reminds me of a Xantia.

I've always avoided computers in cars. I think the Xsara has got some electronics, but not a full computer controlled engine like the HDi version. The Xsara had the XUD, then the DW8, then the HDi engine.

Is the DW8 similar to the XUD? What's the latest Xsara I could get with a XUD or DW8 engine? 2004 maybe? How much would a 2004 Xsara cost?

If I bought a 2004 Xsara, and it lasted twenty years, like the ZX, then I'd be ok until 2024. I could avoid computers for a long time. Electric cars will be here by then.

Xsaras seem pretty cheap as well, especially compared to 206's and 306's.

What does everybody think of the Xsara then? Are they any good? Are they galvanised?

Ey up, weaver - here's something which I'd buy if I were you. I'd avoid a Xsara, myself. Since you don't give your location I've no idea whether it's within easy reach, but for the money it's surely worth it?

Thanks for that link, Spaces. It looks like a nice car. I'm in South Wales, so it's not local to me. About three hours travel time I would think.

The only problem with ZX's is the availability of spare parts, which is why I was thinking about a Xsara. I've been having a lot of trouble with parts being "NFP - No Further Production" from Citroen. The scrap yards seem to be crushing all the ZX's before I can get to them, as well.
