if you end up removeing the gearbox to replace any parts it is more cost efective to replace the whole clutch. get aquality clutch oem or luk avilable motor factors or ebay. if you dont feel confident doing it yourself find a good independant garage

Re: Clutch cable auto adjuster on 106 XLD, possible fault??

Hello,
As I haven't needed the car for a while it's been sitting on the drive waiting for the weekend so I can have another potter.

As mentioned earlier, the slack has gone from the cable and I've now topped the geabox up with about 50 to 100 cc's of oil.

I've noticed that I can now get the forward gears ok, but reverse still grates unless I initially select 5th and then it seems to go into reverse withoutr any trouble - any ideas?

Also, it's been mentioned that a clutch can drag, would this make the car creep if on the level, with a low gear selected and the foot down on the clutch?

And another also, could worn joints on the selector rods cause the gears to grate?

Thanks, G

reverse can grate as it has no syncro depends how bad it is. yes clutch drag can pull the car forward in gear with foot on clutch if you have this its allmost sure you will need a new clutch it will only get worse

Mine doesn't move so I'm trying to eliminate clutch drag, can worn selector rod joints cause issues with reverse grating?

I suppose that would be dependant on how it's been driven, my Saab TiD is still on its original clutch at 145k and that's with 350Nm of torque going through it! Still, a new clutch will be one less thing to think about in the future

Just about to source a new clutch and now everything seems to be slipping in to gear smoothly :?

Could it be the lull before the storm? I'll probably play safe and have one ready on the shelf - any auto factors recommended?

 ......Nope, the cheap old mats I have are thread bare and wouldn't offer too much resistance! Although it was someting I did initially check
