Had a Xantia estate and a c5 estate sx no comparison the c5 is tons better all round power comfort etc etc.Although i think the c5 estate is a lovely smooth streamline good looking estate ,i think the c5 car is butt ugly its like they forgot to design the back end.

The C5 I does look as if it's just had its temperature taken with a thermometer that's larger and colder than it anticipated but I don't think they are that bad looking- especially compared to some newer cars.

I think it's a great car, and by far the best value you can get for a large family car. I paid £250 for one needing a gear cable just over three months ago, fully expecting to have numerous other faults to deal with. All I've had to buy was tyres (managed to score four virtually new Uniroyals for £42, fitted them myself and paid £24 for balancing), wiper blades and a couple of bulbs. The MOT ran out last weekend, all it needed was a washer pump at £12. Try that on a £250 Vectra or Mondeo.

They are a lot tougher than they look too. The previous owners of mine have children and big dogs and the interior was pretty grim when I got it but it's all scrubbed up fine. The car has obviously seen some hard use but the exterior looks perfectly presentable.

isn't it somewhere in the carbon filter? Checks for fumes and recycles automatically ?
I believe even the ford ka can detect fumes and turn on its engine fault light.

From the brief time I've had my exclusive in my hands (rather than a dealer) I liked the laminated side windows
I too love the improved climate control that can send the air to different areas on each side unlike first gens that could blow different temps left and right but not up, down and middle too.
I love the 6 speed auto, but it's my first so maybe that don't count.
I love the puddle lights. Silly I know.
I love auto wipers, they are better on second gen than first.
I love the quieter relays in passenger footwell (on c3 and first gen C5 you could hear the lights and wipers relays going)

Ohhhh Yes !!!

Plenty of love for the C5!!

Owned now for 4 years. We got it with 47k and its now 97K. Maintained regardless, obviously had a few issues but nothing thats made me think of getting rid of it! Infact its quite the opposite. We will keep it as long as we dare! The clutch will need replacing next and I know its a dear job, probably half of the cars value, but it will get done as theres so much life in the car.

Its taken us to Germany (Eiffel Region) Nurnburgring on a full tank from Lancashire still with fuel left, loaded up. I have towed car and trailer (see pic) From Brighton - Preston, Then Aberdeen to Preston a year later, both trips just made me love the C5 even more as it performed brilliantly.

I had it remapped 3 years ago so the power/torque is super! and we can get 48mpg every month plodding to work and back. My driving days are over with it really as the Mrs has it now, even she likes it.

Its not a looker but such a fantastic vehicle. Its such a smooth quiet car to drive and still brilliant 10 years on!!

2008 C5 III saloon, exclusive.

had a lot of issues with the car but all fixed currently...I still love it. I would rather have it that a Insignia, mondeo etc. much nicer looking car, classier interior, better value for money, cushier suspension, quieter ride.

I find the hydractive suspension brilliant for our rough roads, just floats over rough surfaces. The interior is also very hushed and quiet due to laminated glass

the fixed hub steering wheel I love, can change channels, tracks, volume etc even when going round a corner.

planning on keeping it running now that the issues have all been ironed out....

What fuel consumption were you getting before you had it remapped?

Well, my old C5 estate is coming up to 11 years old in the next couple of months. It's done getting on for 160,000 very hard miles, towing, load lugging, and being a general workhorse.
I've had some problems with it over the years, the major expense being a new clutch and DMF. There are quite a few dings on the body work, but absolutely no corrosion. It still keeps running, averages about 48-50 mpg, and uses no oil between changes. It was chipped over 100,00 miles ago and still drives well. I'd have no hesitation in recommending it, and would certainly get another one if this one turned up it's toes....
The air con is the only major system that doesn't work any more, it seems to have lost all it's gas and the expense of repair isn't worth it. I'm quite happy to open a window as I do in my other cars and I can't say honestly that I really miss it.

Before remap around 44-45 MPG. We have had 50MPG but its dropped off for some reason, probably injectors :?

I would definatly recommend a remap. It cost me £170, well worth it IMO

Im eager to get my 2.0HDi 138 remapped, Ill have to ask the insurance and see what they think!

No doubt torque will be even more impressive and my average 50MPG should only improve.

Must get this done :-D

Alanf, you mention you took your C5 to the Nurburgring, did you take it for a spin around?
