batt was 12.5 chris but is on charge all night..

does econ mode shut off elec windows, as mine seems to?
and it's shut off the alarm, well i cant get the hazards to flash when i lock doors with key..

its way beyond my understanding, especially as it has a non standard key, alarm etc

it's a no go lads...

managed to get a lift into work, where my bike is parked..

car still in econ mode after a night without battery (put on charge), and a careful refit today.. turns but wont start/no lift pump etc..

is easy start the only answer left?

certainly going to disable econ mode asap, if the car ever moves again ;)

Not good news John....

Did you take the top part out, and in doing so disconnect the +ve feed? It's very easy to snap this off the PCB when reconnecting - although it's an M8 stud, it is only glued into the PCB on effectively a long lever  My mate did this when we were changing his clutch - similar symptoms....

Rich... thanks..

here's what I think I did..
Mon night, I took seats out, dropped an electric one in, and no power.. after some clues on here, I then tried to get under fusebox in engine bay.. first thing I did was undo that cable.. couldn't see how to prise box up, so put all back together and car had immoliser fault.. panicked and locked car and unlocked (key has no buttons) and hazards flashed and all was fine..

Last night I went back to fusebox, lifted it without touching + wire, and added a 50A fuse into socket 61.. result! seats working.. put box back together, started engine all fine.. spent an hour fitting seats with stereo on..
then Econ mode kicked in..
tried to start her but nothing
panicked..
locked doors and shut boot, bonnet.. expecting the indicators to flash.. they didn't.. econ mode showing on display..
decided to disconnect battery.. (Couldn't wind window down etc) but disconnected, ran a test bulb between terminals, and then shorted them between each other

left for 5 mins or so, reconnected (obviously a spark as things must have been active) and same issue, econ mode and no start..
did that all again, this time removing battery and charged overnight (bat was 12.5 before I charged)
this morning put back in.. waited... had to open door to get to sidelilghts, waited, put key in Igntn, waited, and tried her,,.same result..

I cant say if the econ mode has disabled (as a sideline) the immob and it's not starting or
the econ mode is showing on the diplay and obscurring something else which is causing it not to start..
I dont know what if anything a lexia would do.. save disabling the econ mode as a first.. I dont have a lexia anyway.. nearest is Cachierio and I think one up towards gravesend..

Question, in econ mode, is the lift pump disabled? if so, how is car expected to start again to get out of eco mode? if it isnt disabled, then I can only asssume the immob has kicked in at the same time as eco mode...

grrr
:)

I think the 'economy' mode displayed relates to the elctrical system not the engine, it goes into that mode if you leave the radio on to long when stationary, normally this is cancelled by starting the engine - not in your case though obviously. I assume you have checked that all the plugs in the fusebox are correctly located. You can check if the lift pump is working by releasing one of the pipes to the filter, they come off quite easily, once you have worked out how to do it.

I hope this doesn't happen to me when I fit the seats :?

thanks Peter..
I dont think the plugs can be connected wrong, and the car started after I had been in the fuse box..
no, this all stems from econ mode.. so don't put radio on for too long when fitting seats :)
will check liftpump piping.. but quite sure I have heard the pump before, and I dont now.. I could be making that last bit up though..

another thing.. I have never seen an immob key symbol on dash... at any point.. would my ODB scanner be able to tell me the car was immobilised? or is there another way to prove it..

Eco mode should only cut in if you leave that radio etc on with the engine stopped.
It generally cuts in after 1/2 to 3/4 hour.
Disables most electrical stuff except the unlock and engine start. On unlocking no lights flash.
It should not prevent the car starting. I think this is due to the immobiliser function.

I would go through the battery removal procedure again John.
The main problem there being that you will either have to leave the door open or open it to put the lights on and then operate the key.
Either way is not good but I had to do the latter with my car stood on the street.
I was in too much of a rush the first time and it activated the immobiliser.
Second time took a lot longer and it fired up straight away.
There was no reason for the Eco mode to activate and it didn't either.
Leaving the battery disconnected for long enough and discharging the ECUs thoroughly should nullify the Eco mode then a very slow reboot procedure should (fingers crossed) get you back to normal.

As per my SMS, now the internet is slightly behaving here.

The underbonnet fusepanel, or PSF, can go faulty. It may be timing out prematurely in the face of an unexpected loading, or just rogered. They are not coded. Swapping for a known good, would be my first crack at solving.

I've had the "can't get out of economy mode, all keys forgotten by BSI" routine before, and while the owner didn't want me to spend $600 on it he was happy to pay an official dealer $2K for installing the same parts...

:O expensive..

will keep all updated..
I have done some reading, and I feel I understand a lot more now about the car generally than I did... not enough, but more ;)

I think switching eco off with a lexia may show the real problem.. just a thought though..

O.K so we know that neither the Hazard lights or the headlight flash work ignition off.
Does the radio work ignition off? does it work ignition on?
Ignition On does the headlight light switch work.

Object of the exercise is to establish if Body VAN bus 1 is actually alive as this will be required to read the imobilser code from the key.

In answer to a previous question as far as I can see the lift pump is driven from a relay in the engine relay unit via Fuse 2.

Question if Fuse F8 is pulled in the engine relay unit can 12V be measured, you will need a fine wire probe to go where the fuse blade goes (12V to ground)

If 12v is present at F8 refit F8 and then pull F2 switch the ignition on and check for 12V on F2 if present this would indicate that power to the lift pump would appear to be available.

Leave you with that one for a while while I do some more reading.

Tony as said.. hazards and headlamp flash works..

will do as you say now though..

radio doesn't work at all.. don't forget it's stuck in econ mode.. so most of the car doesn't work.. elec windows, interior lights, etc..
