Looks like ill have to be getting registered with Costco then. I'll have to find one first

Im glad I am not the only one who disliked Goodyear tyres! No, grip was not outstanding. A very cheaply and badly made tyre which I wont be considering again.

They are still making tyres Jim, though it would be nice if they made a decent one! The V tread design Goodyear F1 was their best tyre, which they no longer do.

Got a set of Toyo T1r's on my Zx16v , awesome dry grip and pretty good in the wet too and a reasonable price to boot .

Shame they can not be had in any Xantia size, still, the CF-1 is a good tyre and the reviews back that up.

I swear by falken tyres, had 2 sets now 1 on Octavia vrs 170 CR (452s) and now just replaced stock michelins on my c5 1.6 hdi with zeix912. Loads of grip wet or dry and almost no road noise, reasonably cheap too @ £75-£100 per corner. Downside of the 452 is longevity it is a sports tyre / soft compound so only lasted 10,000 spirited miles, the 912 is harder so will see how they go...

No reply from Cooper Brothers yet...I'll have to chase them up...

By the way the tyres on the V6 at the moment are Millenium at the front and Federal at the back. Haven't heard of either of those before so I'm assuming they're typical cheap brands

The back ones don't actually look too bad but the front ones are pretty awful. Even though they still have the legal tread depth (just) they have large smooth tread blocks without any microgrooves, so they aquaplane quite badly in the wet...

It seems like the small microgrooves that are so important for wet weather grip aren't cut to the full tread depth on some tyres so as they wear down a bit and the small grooves disappear they start aquaplaning ?

Federal tyres are not too bad, the ones I have experience with were pretty noisey which got a lot worse as they got worn. Grip was ok but nothing to shout about, wet grip could have been much better. I have heard of Millenium tyres, they are very much a budget brand.

I can't see it being a good design that the microgroves wear out as the tread wears. Perhaps they think your getting more tread in contact with the road, though if there are not cross directional sipes then I can't see where the bad weather grip comes from, especially when setting off and braking.

I was looking at Fulda SportContacts the other day, they are available in my C5s size and I have found Fulda tyres to be fairly impressive in other models. However looking at pictures of them, as they wear they end up as just four tread stripes with no groves at all.

I like tyres with a V tread design, directional tyres. I often find them the quietest of tyres but also the best at keeping the grip in standing water.

Goodyear did have a tyre called the Optigrip, Im not sure if its still available. The grooves got wider and more sipes show through as the tread wears, almost combating the lower tread levels as they were.

I had a set of Falken 912s on the E-type which seemed to be OK, so I fitted a set to the Xantia V6, but I really didn't like them on that car compared to Michelin Energy Savers. To be honest I can't remember why I didn't like them, but was probably down to the handling. It didn't help that I punctured one on the E-type and the size I needed was out of stock for 3 months.

If you have a full set of mixmatched tyres then yes, it probably will limit the performance of the tyres. Especially if one or a few of those are poor performing budget brands. In my opinion a car should have at least a matched pair across both axles, its what I always aim for and have replaced alomst new tyres just to get a matched pair.

I fitted a pair of 206.60.15 Continental Premium Contact 2s to the front of my Activa yesterday. So far im very impressed with them, wet grip is excellent, by far the best I have had with the Xantia yet.

A favourite tyre of mine is the Toyo Proxies t1R. The grip is very good, even in the wet. My only gripe is they wear fairly quickly (mind the tracking has been out on my car, and when I had them on another car I did drive it hard) however for the price you can't complain. Very good value.
