When I put a straight through exhaust on my Xantia 1.9 TD, I welded a nut onto the top of the bolts. Makes it a lot easier to get a spanner on and hold bolt in place while those dratted springs and cups are fitted. Easier also to get spanner/socket on them to remove too. Having the bolt heads sunk down in the cups is a knob of an idea.

Harry

Went for a Clarke Mig Pro 90 when they had one of their VAT free days. It's supposed to do up to 4mm but I suspect it would be hard going. As I said, I have had a stick welder for 30 years and I'm much more comfortable using that. Anything over 1.6mm thick then I will arc it. The Mig is good for little jobs and the thinner stuff. Replaced a significant proportion of the body work on a Suzuki Jeep with it and so far it has stood up well.

Rory,
Thankyou for the info. Always difficult making choices based on sellers/manuf info - bit like mpg on cars!
