Excellent idea Paul. The only possible problem I would have thought is that the gain/sensitivity of the tape input is very high, I would have thought you would have to attenuate the input signal or it would overdrive the amp. But if it works - it works.

I might be able to help you there sir..

I have a stack of them but no idea what condition they're in or if they have good displays...

If you are prepared to spend £15 or so, you can get a lead that allows you to use your wheel controls with an aftermarket head unit. I did this with a pioneer unit in my first Xantia and I've done it with my current Berlingo too...

For originalities sake really, my current radio doesn't have remote capability unfortunately!

As much as i love the flappy panel that hides it :D

I did the originality thing with the TT when I had to replace the Bose head unit that broke. I wish I hadn't as they're rubbish compared to modern ones! I should have done what many have done and found a headunit that lights up the same colour as the dash so it looks factory , but sounds better. The TT doesn't have steering wheel controls to worry about though.

Very true. I don't think a lot of aftermarket radios actually market that they can use wheel controls so finding one requires some research!

I think I paid £49.99 for the Pioneer mp3 thingy that's in my Berlingo and £20 for the cable. It's so much better than the original one!
