If you have a proper XP Distro disk and a valid licence key (rather than just the laptop recovery disks) it's easy, just boot from the disk and follow the instructions to delete the original partition, create a new partition, format it and then install the OS.

A set of recovery disks should do the same as most seem to delete the old partition(s), create a new one and format the disk as the first thing it does.

Remember Lexia only works on XP. (as far as I know...)

After a bit of fiddling I got the laptop formatted and reinstalled with XP. The Lexia is now installed and working :-D

Wonder how long for this time?!

Excellent news Chris :-D :-D :-D

Until Windows decides it doesn't want to play any more. Actually, if it's just a basic build with no connectivity and doing nothing but Lexia then it should be fine now for a very long time indeed...

I just hope our dear Mr. Gates hasn't planted any time-bombs in XP. I have a belief a lot of his other products do have some sort of 'You really must update to my latest and greatest now because soon this one will start doing some really funny things to annoy you' device implanted in them...

Yes, I'll keep it just for the Lexia I think.

It does have Office installed but only on a need to use basis.

You must have a lot of patients to work with computers Jim

It's a job Chris. It earns me money. And the area of IT I work in is very specialised and actually quite interesting and satisfying in a way some of the time. Most of the time it's uphill grind and the only reason I enjoy my day is the brilliant group of people I work with. It's like the FCF :-D I still get quite a buzz out of something I've written/designed/built that works and is appreciated by its target audience though.

At home I have a different view, A computer is a tool to reach this forum and to send/receive email. I like my home computers to be easy, trouble-free and nothing like I see at work. Thus I run Linux at home and the only Windows PCs is my Lexia laptop and one that gets used very occasionally if my phone needs an update. It's a Windows phone so I have no choice there...

With Windows at home I was getting to the point I just couldn't face another Windows screen after a long day at work. Again the reason for Linux.

Damn! Patience!

My head is full of river quality testing at the moment, hence my higher than average usage of the forum today, im supposed to be writing a report

Ive about got a grip of windows now, I don't know where I would start learning another package

Im not really knowledgeable with computers, I know a bit but not a lot. Computers often infuriate me, I use a computer all day at work and it often gets a bit of a talking to

Mine get talked to a lot and in erm, rather colourful language. I often question their parentage

You use A (as in one) computer. I have eight of the bloody things under my desk at work. Logging in and out is a major undertaking

I'm posting a lot today because this is my first true day off in a couple of weeks and I'm just relaxing and enjoying the forum and a bit of FarceBook... It's been a proper good day as Kev would say...

River quality reports. Umm. I noted this morning ours (not more than a Swallow's flight from my house), a tributary of the Great Ouse just before it joins it at the confluence, is over the top of its banks and starting to fill its flood plain... It never did that once last winter. Shows how dry it was.

Bet my way to work tomorrow morning will be flooded...

Well, in fact its four computers which are networked and need constant updating to run a till system on them. There is also another computer which is about 5 miles away and is also on the network. In a few weeks I have a trip to Northampton for a day for some more training.

Talking to them does help, though the front fell off one I was talking to on Friday. I think it needs a new hamster putting inside on the wheel as its slowed to a crawling pace at the moment.

My report is going .... very slowly. Tomorrow I need to do some GIS mapping and statistics using MiniTab, before submitting my finished project. I literally can not wait.

Not sure if I would say its a proper good day, though at least I don't mind being stuck at the computer while the weather is this bad! We will soon need to swap the Citroens for amphibious cars if this keeps up.
