I HAVE to concour! These tools ARE destructable... And I have inialated my OWN!

The threaded part the bolt goes into has stripped, then the reinforcing "strap" sheared from the circular section.. and to top it off, its completely distorted!

However, ILL have another.. Mine gets a hammering, with 25 Xantias I look after to the 10 of my own and family.. So Ill have one too!!

I suppose this would be an opportune moment to advise for those that may not know that spheres only need to be tightened by hand. Therefore there should be no need for any great force to remove when subseqently required. The thing that keeps them tight in use is system pressure.

Paul, are you saying you've tweaked a Pleiades tool, or the 15 squid jobbie?

Hi Addo

I claim the honour of being another person to have broken a Pliaedes tool.
They are normally industructable despite any abuse.
Band snapped due to hidden defect in the steel.
Very unusual with todays quality of steel manufacture and beyond Pliaedes control.
Tool replaced FOC.
I cant say without question as we had an interesting phone discussion about the fracture surfaces to understand the failure cause.

Hi All

I can support Paul in the problems with sphere removal on cars of indeterminate maintenance history.
This actually applies to most Citroens that have come my way, even some with dealer FSH.
Once the spheres have been correctly replaced I find a strap wrench works fine and gets in however difficult the access.
Early on I tried one of the Ebay sphere tools but it was quickly distorted and consigned to the bin.
A sphere is a high pressure vessel with the outer surface under tension.
Only those spheres removed without steel surface damage should be repressurised and reused.
Cold chisel removal or using Stiltsons mean the sphere should be scrapped.
Not a problem currently with new spheres cheap and easily obtained.
May become a problem though in the future so I test and save reusable spheres.
