I have exactly this problem on mine. When it first happened I couldn't source a new filter housing, so as a temporary measure to keep the car going, I sealed it with Blu Tack!!!!
I've have had to push it back in 2 or 3 times, but it's still soldiering on about 9 months later.I keep forgetting it's there.
Terrible bodge i know.
Jim
Are you saying these can be repaired with a couple of o rings?
Cheers

Thing is, some veg guys modify the thermostat to be open all the time which suggests that re-fitting that bloomin' metal clip is possible...
I'd like to get hold of a couple of ones from breakers and have a really good go at what needs to be done.

I've done this mod on two of our cars, its certainly not impossible to remove the star clip thing, I can't remember the method though! Search for 'penny mod' on the vegetableoildiesel forum. I'll try to but im on my phone at the monent

I could do with a second one too... If there's one going?

It turns out that the leakoffs end plug is all perished and visibly leaking, had to get kit off eBay so here's hoping it arrives soon.

I was thinking of plugging the leaking thermostat bit on the filter body.

I have doubts about it to be honest.
The thermostat opens when the temperature of the housing is below a certain level, so the fuel goes through the heat exchanger.
The heat exchanger and heated fuel also heats the filter housing.
When it gets hot enough the fuel just goes into the filter housing (which is still being heated by the HE as it's in contact with it) and gets heated.

Put it like this, if cutting off the path through the HE caused the fuel to drop in temperature then your performance on a cold morning would be:

Sluggish, getting a bit more responsive, normal responsive level, <HE excluded>, less responsive.

I don't know about yours, but Cassy doesn't respond like that.

The thread on the mod shows silicon sealant being used to refit the thermostat, which suggests the star clip isn't re-used.

Yes, there's motor factors but not near the plant i work in - closed by the time I'm out. Halfrauds don't seem to stock this thin tubing though they do have fuel hose and heater matrix sized hose.

Well, it's getting worse! although it starts ok, it is lasting about 2 miles then it runs like it's getting half as much fuel as it needs, it stays like this on the motorway at 50mph and slowly improves until it runs ok. In the absence of any of the parts needed yet I have performed a bodge this evening that may or may not work.

First up, this is the diesel pipe that was slack - I fitted a tight spring clip to it and pushed it on better (slid nearly 20mm)
Image this was done yesterday but didn't make any odds at all.

Then, this bit is leaking as discussed.
Image
I was going to try and plug it with something but forgot that the white coloured center bit protrudes and couldn't find anything to go onto the outer edge either. The temporary BODGE was to find a jubilee clip and use a doubled over piece from latex gloves to stretch over the plug. Here it's fitted.
Image
not ideal and I don't know if the latex will dissolve with diesel (probably) but to get to work tomorrow I think it'll prevent air ingress here.

Not to be outdone by a plastic peugeot part I spread a film of silicone sealant around the top cap seam just to be sure!
Image

Lastly, the dreaded leakoffs are leaking here
Image
The blank off end cap is visibly cracked and oozing.

I don't think my woes are down to any one of these problems but the result of all of these issues.

I'll see how it goes tomorrow morning..
