Re: Xantia pressure warning and water leak.
Thanks again, will be sealing that up, already bought the sealant I had the carpets seats and everything out once already so I know what I'm doing there;)

Re: Xantia pressure warning and water leak. Progress
Well today I got the front scuttle panel sealed to the windscreen with tigerseal pu adhesive sealant. No water will be getting past it now
Secondly I have identified the cause of my water leak. I dropped the headlining a bit and looked at what was what. The drain tube was firmly attached and after removing it and blowing down it it's obviously clear.
Next I poured some water from a watering can into the sunroof cassette. The leak became immediately obvious as it was flooding into the car! Near the drain tube attachment on the corner underneath there is what looks like a cut out with a screw in it. It was literally pouring in through there
So, next job is to drop the headlining completely and fix the problem. Is it perhaps the seal between the sunroof cassette and the roof I wonder?

Well, got my new accumulator sphere today Hope to get it fitted soon. Soaked everything in WD40 yesterday in preparation. Hopefully it will come off OK

Re: Xantia pressure warning and water leak. Accumulator fitt
Well, accumulator fitted today
The old sphere wouldn't come off with the small chain wrench I borrowed. However, a few sharp taps with a hammer and chisel soon got it going Changing the sphere was simple enough.
However, me being me I took the bleed screw right out and put it back in again. Job done, started car, it wouldn't lift and the stop light wouldn't go out
Eventually I saw the ball bearing under the car. Bleed screw out again, ball bearing in before it, started the car again and out went the stop light Car came up to normal height nicely and I then put it in high and checked and topped up the fluid level.
Accidently I tested my new accumulator sphere by sitting on the rear, it levelled up nicely then when I got off, went up some more and quickly settled back to it's normal height.
It might just be wishful thinking but the steering feels smoother
The final test will be what happens when I start it in the morning

Right, now go and run 100 laps of your town square holding the old accumulator over your head and shouting at the top of your voice "I must not drop my balls"...mirafioriman wrote:However, me being me I took the bleed screw right out and put it back in again. Excellent... You were lucky to find the ball again...
Yes, quite possibly as the new accumulator will smooth out pressure pulses and give a nice steady delivery of hydraulic pressure...mirafioriman wrote: It might just be wishful thinking but the steering feels smoother

Well good news
The stop light went out within a couple of seconds this morning and the car rose up nicely
On to sorting out the sunroof leak and drying out the inside of the car now

Excellent progress it's ever so satisfying to eliminate problems one by one isn't it

It certainly is I also have discovered the earth lead on the battery needs replaced. Hopfully that should be a fairly straightforward job.

Re: Xantia pressure warning and water leak. Accumulator fitt
Water leak and battery clamp today
Started by removing the headlining:
Removed the sunroof cassette. There was a lot of moisture in the roof cavity:
One of the drain pipes had this in it:
Oddly enough this was in the side of the car that appears dry
After a test with a watering can:
I was sat in the car at the time and the good news is it didn't appear to leak. I could hear the water going down the drains though
So what was the problem then? After refitting the sunroof cassette I noticed the front of the sunroof was in the closed position rather low. I adjusted this as it is a simple operation. Looking at the design of it I'm wondering if it was simply that the front was too low allowing too much water past the seal and the drains couldn't cope.
While I had everything apart I cleaned all the channels of any dirt to help the water flow
I haven't put the headlining back in yet, it's forecast rain this week so I'm going to test it a bit more
I also got the replacement battery earth clamp fitted and fully charged the battery. It started better but we will know more when I start from cold in the morning. It always started but seemed to struggle a bit.

Have you removed any images from your potatobucket account - creates havoc if you do - you will need to go back and repost the links.mirafioriman wrote:Somebody please give me a clue why my pictures won't appear

The links work fine if taken and opened in another browser window.
I added an image of Kate Williams in there just to test and she shows fine.
I believe that the content between the img tags must start http://www" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. whereas those pictures begin http://i888" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.
That's the only difference I can see...

I can't get those images to open in anything (Firefox, Flock, Opera, Chrome) and you have a point there with the code Jim.
Code =
[ IMG]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v407/ ... o1_500.jpg[/IMG]
Did you use the fourth option on the list IMG code?
