Drifting slightly off topic, but based on your experience. It hadn't occurred to me that diesel could 'go off'.

I have a 4 gallon jerry can of diesel that I bought after one of the fuel shortage scares about 12 years ago - so I could get to work if it happened again. Not used it, it sits there through summer and winter, and last year the temperature got well below freezing even in the garage.

I have an old Synergie with the XUD engine, a C3 with a 1.4 hdi 8 valve, and a C5 2.0 hdi 160. I could risk it in the Synergie I suppose, but perhaps I shouldn't use it at all based on reading this thread. I'm not worried about the cost of the fuel, but what do I do with it apart from leaving it where it is forever?

I'd not use it in anything personally Richard, not even an XUD after seeing what old, stale diesel does to pumps...

As for disposal, that's easy. Go to your local tip (AKA Recycling Centre or whatever poncy name your local authority now calls it's rubbish dumps) and deposit the contents into the used engine oil tank...

Yes renewed the brass seals put the injectors in away it went .I think the MPG may be wrong on the trip, on my last run of 60miles the trip MPG went up to 57MPG ,never had that before, unless it due to renewing the filters. Not bad the highest quote for the job was around £2500 and the lowest £600,sorted it for about £60 just go's to show how you could get ripped off.

And people just dont beleve me when i say theres no need for a lexia!!

Thr mpg could of gone up if the injectors are in a better state and you say its running better then ever....

Very good.. Mechanics are one of the easyest ways to rip people off more so when owners admit they know nothing! I found this when some new customers had a td xantia esate which needed a couple of heater plugs and four corner spheres - quoted price from a garage £1200. .. My price £200 quid. ..or so..

Micro organisms breed in old diesel. Happens regular and system needs to be treated with biocide formula.

Unleaded goes off too. I always put my outboard motor fuel in the car at end of season. Start with new fuel the next year.
