The 406 will pull away well at tickover but if you drop to about 1200 rpm when driving its gutless whereas the XM will pull quite well from that speed.
Definitely something not right there Peter, HDi's produce more torgue at lower rev's than a 2.1, think of the money you could save if the engine is breathing correctly  Joking aside it might be worth giving the cat a sensible knock prior to the Italian tune up to dislodge some of the built up soot. Citroen did produce a service bulletin on this very matter of the cat being blocked with soot.

RUBBISH Peter, In the Old XUD yes a hard plod resulting in black cloud of smoke, but in these HDi I simply CANNOT get a cloud of smoke from the exhaust (Once the exhaust soot has cleared)

I only get a grey Haze.. remember these HDi's use minimal amounts even at high revs.. No wasted fuel resulting in black clouds!

I think it probably was soot Paul but nothing like the thunder cloud I get when I do the same to the XM.

Dickie

Its doing 60+ mpg so I'm not going to complain at that but it certainly doesn't pull at low speed like the XM.

My HDi 110 pulls much better at low revs since I changed the cambelt - no idea why, the timing appeared spot on before and after, but it used to judder if you asked anything of it below 1250, but now it's fine :? . 50 mph = 1750 rpm in top in a Xantia HDi 110 (or any speed you like in mine, as the speedo reads 50 most of the time anyway  )
