Hi guys,

Done the ecky thump fix and the gauge starts to work for a short while then stops so it appears to be the circuit board.

Whilst looking for clues about my faulty gauge I found Clogzz posted this pic in another fuel gauge thread, the strange 'blobs' inside the red line are said to be the problem. This picture from Xantiaclub Nederland shows the dodgy gauge connectors on a LHD dash panel. -

fuel gauge

I have a problem with the low fuel warning light and was wondering if this could also be a dry solder joint ?, when I switch the ignition on the light never comes on at all and when the fuel is low it stays off and gives no warning of how low the fuel really is, I have checked the bulb, which was fine and put a new one in while I had the dash off.
I found if I put the ignition on, the gauge works but not the light, if I dis-connect the plug on the sender unit the light will come on but not the fuel gauge as you might expect but when I re-connect the plug the situation is reversed i.e. gauge but no light, ot's more annoying than anything else but it would be nice if it worked because with a diesel doing good miles to the gallon, it's so easy to forget to look at the gauge.
up, up and away
