You know if I was having that much trouble I'd just go to BP. Can you get yourself some filters and filter the oil as you put it into the tank?

My pal who ran his 406 on used chip oil from cafes had a set up in his shed where he cleaned it.

One ten gallon plastic barrel with a tap set six inches from the bottom, he let the stuff settle until all the sludge was below the tap level then from the tap through a coffee filter into a clean barrel.

That seemed to be all that was needed, he did about 80k miles on that without any problems (except that the bloody car always smelled like a chip shop) :)

ahh it's no bother, to be sure :) changing the filter is a 1 min job.. and I get a warning (about 30 miles) before it's going to need it.. even at £4 a week for the filter, I am still saving a lot more than using Diesel..

the point of my hijack, (sorry  ) was more to see if I could have finally done some damage to the pump after so much miles/time.. i.e. whether the pump was loosing it's ability to draw the fuel from the filter and thus giving the symptoms of a blocked filter...

Looking at the filter I removed on Monday, it's clear to me (sorry) that the last batch of oil I brought must be the culprit.. with that in mind, I will empty the final barrel in, stock up on more filters, and then see how the latest batch of barrels behave..

I never shake the paranoid feeling that pouring food into my tank will always be safe, even after 50 tankfuls
