A right hand drive van is too much of a pain in the ar** to drive on the wrong side of the road, whereas with a car its much easier.
1991 BX Millesme Diesel, 1999 Citroen Saxo diesel, 1985 Visa Cabriolet, Citroen C15 pickup,1991 Hymer B534 camper with Peugeot J5 power, 1999 Isuzu Trooper, loads of mopeds!

Another enquiry about these cars - my mate ( a habitue of the BX forum) is getting his mate in the UK to look out for one of these for me, but he (uk mate) did say he knew of a couple I could have for next to nothing as they had cylinder head problems - he reckons they are notorious for the injectors getting stuck and breaking off in the head. I had not heard of this, I must confess I thought the 1.9TD was only a more advanced version of the XUD? engine.
Anyone care to comment on this?

Is he thinking of 806 or 807?
I had never heard of siezed injectors being a problem either, until we bought a peugeot 807 a couple of weeks ago. What I learned was quite fascinating.
The seller of our new car mentioned it had to have a new engine 2 years ago, paid for 50:50 at the previous owner and peugeots expence (as it broke the belt at 60K and had a full service history). This was due to the cam belt snapping. I didn't think much of it at the time as I have always known the HDI to be fairly bullet proof.
A bit of research though revealed it is a very common occurence for 2.0 / 2.2 HDI built around 2003 to 2005 to snap the belt and in a lot of cases this results in new engine (including four new injectors) needed. I'm glad in a way our's has already suffered the failure but shocked that PSA never did a recall.
Reason for the failure: Scuttle panel leak. The water finds it way under along some pipes over the engine and drips on all the injectors and the timing belt / pulleys. When it freezes either the belt de-laminates or slips due to one of the pulleys being frozen solid. As mentioned in a post above, the valves usually survive but the rockers break. No big deal then you would think.
However, the injectors mount through the cam cover (might not have right terminology here) and have to be removed before you can get access to the rockers or even the cylinder head bolts. Problem is they are now welded to the head and even the best citroen / peugeot garages sometimes just can't get them out and their only solution is to smash the head to bits (literally). Result new top end plus 4 injectors (not cheap if you can't send the old ones back for exchange).
What I find shocking it that PSA designed a part (in about 2006) to catch and divert the water away from the engine, but never did a recall.
Just google 'C8 cambelt failure'.
I did find during my research that a guy in Edinburgh has had a hydraulic injector puller designed and made just to treat C8's/807's and can get most injectors out. He offers a fixed price of about £1500. Some people have spent 4K to get their car back on the road.

We are really looking at pre 2001 cars, in France they are only 50% of the cost to register, and I have an aversion to spending 4 figure sums on cars!!
Is the same / similar problem found with the older TD types - these are more likely to be in our price / age bracket?
