Cachaciero, If you can't fit a bigger intercooler of any type then how about a water sprayed or water to air intercooler. It seems a bit far though for a everyday car. Would it be possible to get one made with a bigger/thicker core that could replace the existing one?

Don't know hav'nt really looked into it just a thought that has gone through my mind when looking at the intercooler on the 2.2 which is the same size as that fitted to the 2.0 ltr. The existing one is to say the least compact, seems to have far less air capture area than the one fitted to the 2.1 XM.
Water spray? interesting, but if that was going to make a difference I would have thought that the effect would have been noticable on wet days and I can't say I have noticed any difference.
Must have a look at the later 173 2.2 and see if there were any changes there.
