I believe there's quite a contradiction in the above statement in that Police cars are the most thrashed vehicles you could ever imagine, I cannot think of any other owner who drives their cars flat out every day and whilst they are well maintained they have at least three non owner drivers each day who make countless short journeys at high speed then immediately turn off the engine cooking the turbo bearings, hence why Police cars get through so many turbos.
It was a police liason car used for a domestic violence unit.

That may have been the case for some of its life but very few police cars stay in one particular post for all of their service life, the vast majority are moved around for various reasons including being borrowed by other departments for particular operations if only for a few hours, personally I wouldn't touch one with a very long barge pole.

Very much agree there.

Styling is a personal thing, but whether you like it or not, it doesnt detract from the fact the C5 is a very good car, reliable too!

Avoid very early examples and make sure you find a well looked after car, it should give very reliable service. All of our 5 had, I wouldnt have had so many if they were not reliable cars.

Buy one and try it, you can always sell it on if you don't get along.

How do you manage to be so unlucky with them?

No one will ever persuade me that they are not reliable, as I know they are. If you get a good one, with will stay good as long as you keep it well maintained.

the bottom cover can fall off any car if not fitted securely and in my experience my c5 cover is no worse than the covers on any other car or van i have owned and i have had a lot of cars

Both my c5 's have been reliiously servicefd. Anytime there has been a fault they have been taken to garage. They are well maintained and are used and treated with respect.

Last night STOP warning and temperature light cam
e on and this time did not go off.

I havd spent thousands at garages. The worst thing is that the garages take multiple attempts to get it right.

I have already taken the car to garage 3 times re this problem. Now I am havingto seriously contemplate taking to dealers. People who fail to diagnose or who have replaced and replaced but failed to fix on a number of times all costing 80 quid an hour.

At the moment i have trief numerous garages.i have no options left. The implicationthat I haven't looked after my car annoys.

I wont be getting another citroen. I simply can't afford it.

I don't think that was the implication.

I think what was meant was if you get a good one, because it is a "good" one then normal maintenance will keep it on the road.
If you've got a lemon (or two

) then no matter how much you throw at it, it seems it will always have problems.
So best ditch it and get a Xantia

That's actually one of the benefits of going for an older car, survival of the fittest, by most Xantias' age 99.999% of the duds have died along the way leaving only the best of the crop.

I agree, I've had cars in the past (both Cit and non-cit)that I've properly maintained but which still have been a pile of whatever.....
