Xac, you make me love the V6 even more
Why oh why didn't we get V6 Activas over here? It's so unfair!

Of course a bosch'd 2.1TD boosted to 150/200bhp Activa running on veg would do me perfectly.
complete with james bond smoke screen and enough lag for you to finnish your coffee whilst listening to all of Jeremy vine before it came on boost

A xud tuned like that would be a big disapointment imo, now if someone would like to come forward with the plans for a 4.2 litre V8 XUD or a twin engine setup im listening

Are the bosh 2.1s just as gutless as the lucas epic Xantias then? I was led to believe they were an improvement over the 1.9TD, maybe a 1.9TD Activa is the way to go.
Wait a minute! I've got an Activa with a leakiing exhaust manifold gasket, and I've got a spare 1.9TD engine...
Now all I have to do is convince Jim it's a good idea!

Ive not driven a Lucas 2.1TD but I am impressed with the Bosch 2.1, it is far from gutless, revs nicely and not as shorter power band as I was led to believe. Ive only had a brief drive of a 1.9 but the drive felt similar, just with the 2.1 having more pull.

that will take some convincing  , the 2.1 is rather nice actualy but the 1.9 is a bit more fre reving, like it has a shorter stroke but i dont know tat much about them if im honest, don think the tuning is the right idea, it would ruin the feel of the engine, i bet you could get another 15bhp out of one easily with a boost and fueling tweak like you have done but i think stop there to preserve the smoothness and refinement.

At one point I've run x2 Activae and a v6 back to back over the same run
and routine to get daily feedback comparison of them all. Basically, my s2
was nowhere near as good on fuel mpg compared to the s1 some scumbag
stole and neither could touch my v6. The Activae give low 30's/high 20's on
a good day, low 20's on a bad one with the s2 and the v6 mid 30's.

Problem now is, the first v6 has decided not to run and the second is
no better than the Activae!! :?

Could all be down to differences in tuning/maintenance I guess. I recall
TopGear testing BHP on their challenge cars and finding big drops in the
real BHP which will obviously screw mpg I guess.

Dear oh dear, I'm going to have to cover the ears of the XM

I've only had experience with tractors and XUD Denzils and in my opinion, the 2.1 is a world away from the 1.9 with low down get up and go. I do agree with the rather quick running out of puff, could do with an extra bit of length sometimes.
I guess it depends on the driving style, the 2.1 is much more natural to me and suits the lazyness of the XM but straight from the off I would have guessed that it wouldn't suit Xac's.

My view, Andrew, running a V6 and an Activa is this. The V6 is more economical overall, running around town and so on but the Activa is more economical on a long steady run...

Swings and roundabouts... V6 for the daily grind and Activa for trips. A mode the Activa excels in.

Nothing wrong with an EPIC you know, excellent pumps. Until you need to swap them that is...

Kev, you're bang on in your assessment of the 2.1 and how it suits the laid-back nature of the XM :D

Super-fast tractors: now there's a hoot  The JCB with Citroen suspension is pretty fast anyway, good for a 40mph cruise...

Xac and Tractors: just think about it Xac, you could grow your own fuel!!! I best you'd set some ploughing speed records in the process too

Hdi derv for the daily driver & petrol for the fun weekend car. I get 650-700 miles out of every tank with mixed motorway/town driving from my hdi 90 xantia. Id be out of pocket if i ran a petrol due to the amount of miles i do a year (20-30k), or even a smoky old xud as my old turbo-d used to only do 550 to a tank.

Recent pic of my mileage before last fill up. 700+ miles would have been easily done reserve light had only just come on! took 62 ltrs to fill up to full again.

Image

Mpg on the activa's is terrible for the power, i get 28-30mpg on a run out of my van with 240+hp on a carb! Single mpg figures with my boot down though.

You'd be quids in if you were driving a 1.9TD on veg, even with svo you'd be doing over 800 miles for the price of only 700 miles in your hdi.
