good to hear you have sorted No. one,
with the second car are you sure its not just your cam cover seal leaking
as they go hard and crack up with age,
the way to spot this is if the oil is all the way down the front of the head from the cam cover seal,
if it is it wont be the head gasket as oil doesnt offten go very far upwards,

Thanks for the tips Malcolm.
Alas this second one has a bit of oil appearing in the water tank as well.
I changed the oil cooler by the filter thinking it was that which was leaking but it wasn't.
The cam cover gasket does indeed leak a bit as per your description of oil all over the front! and is due for renewal.
With 155K on the clock this one is now due a few preventative jobs.
For reference I will now start searching the forum to see if any one else has posted blow by blow account with pictures of a head gasket change and pitfalls to avoid for a 1.9TD Xantia.
Maybe I should start a new thread too to avoid confusions.
