Yes, and the most frugal ones have the Lucas EPIC pump... 50 is easy and 55 possible :D
Unless I'm behind the wheel, then 32mpg was a push!

Not far off actually, the Xm hits 173 Ib ft (its max torque) at 2000 rpm, the TCT at 2500.

I agree Jim, im amazed and very impressed at its low down pull, like a diesel but with a nice smooth noise

Yep, i could go for a 2.1 if it didnt run out of puff at 4k  .

I was rather impressed by my activa too, it will drive in 5th at 30mph at just about 1100rpm and if you stick your foot down it pulls really well, more so in 3rd though, not really looked at fuel consumtion much but i think im doing about 25mpg which is slightly better than the xm, that will be the manual box at work, the xm will do 40mpg on a run, cant see the Activa matching that but then who cares 8-).

I dont find the 2.1 too low reving and I dont find performance drops off after 4K. It does level out at slightly higher revs, though not as bad as I was expecting before I drove one.

This is it dean, is a small price to pay for the drive it delivers. I think mine must be doing similar MPG - 26 to 28, possibly 30 on my motorway run to to work. I can't ever see it doing anywhere near 40

I don't think any of mine have ever seen 4k, the fastest they go is 70 mph in 5th and that's nearly 2,500 rpm

my 1998 S2 1.9TD estate with cat removed returns 53 mpg on filtered waste veg oil with 5% petrol in it urban and 58 mpg on a run.

zac 800 miles to a tankful that's pretty astounding.

was that on veg oil or perhaps a 50/50 brew of dino and veg which seems to increase mileage for me per gallon.

400 litres of fuel in the shed ready to use and no-where to go.

regards Nigel.

This whole running on veg oil is very intriguing!

53MPG from a 1.9TD on average, that must be a record!?

Was on derv Nigel, back in those days I didn't know they could run on veg.
Wish I had, it was back around the time of the fuel blockades, I was working for the AA in Basingstoke.
With stocks running low, I had enough fuel to get to work for a week, or I could head to France and fill up, so I called my boss and she let me take the next day off at short notice.
With cans and a full tank, I came back with 100L, and the saving paid for the trip over!

It was a '95 Xantia, so no cat, no ECU. Lots of rolling down hills, turning the engine off at lights etc, but of naughty slip streaming too.

Xac,

it is a bit gutting suddenly realiseing after owning a citroen diesel for so many years running it on derv and all that time there was so much free WVO out there to be collected and processed, now its £5 a drum because the suppliers are getting wise to the use of the oil. anyway that is still pretty amazing milage in your 1.9TD even if you did coast a little bit.
if everyone did that the oil companies might suddenly realise how much they need the consumer and drop the prices to encourage more spending.
Oh and the filter modification has prooved very much worth it the oil gets hotter and the distance the bosch pump has to pull the oil is reduced by roughly 10 feet because the FPHE isnt used any more no more FPHE no more vacumm and no more air bubbles, brilliant that XUD filter Mod.

Chris,

if your Xm has a bosch pump on it it should run on veg oil fine, providing it is a diesel that is.

I have sent you a pm with a bit more about the subject.

The Xm is a 2.1TD manual with BOSCH pump, yep.

So it should run fine on veg, trouble is its an occasional car which has done 4K miles in the last 18 months. So not really worth subjetcing it to veg use. It might as well be a 3.0 V6 and I still wouldn't notice the difference in running costs over such a low annual mileage.

I didn't receive a PM ... :?

Finding a nice Xantia TD to stick veg in is very tempting at the moment though 8-)

with the MPG you're getting Nigel you should be doing over 800 miles on a run and over 700 urban.
And you're doing that without hypermilling which is bloody impressive!

Once managed 869 miles on a tank in my 1.9TD SX Series 1.

Always wanted to see if I could actually break a 1000 miles.

It worked out at 53 mpg when I did that tank back in September 2008. 0.5 mpg below manufacturer's figures for 56 mph.

Funny thing was the journeys in the car broke down roughly like this.

Milling between Nottingham and Mansfield up the A60 for a couple of weeks to and from work probably around 300 - 350 miles.

Journey down to Heathrow for plane to States to celebrate 105th Harley Anniversary. 156 miles.

Partner drove it back. No doubt she thrashed it! 156 miles of not-so-frugal motoring.

Then a week of going to work when I got back and a trip to Skeggy. Got too nervous though near Boston when I had last chance to fill up late at night and it was foggy. Didn't fancy running out on the A1121 between Boston and Swineshead Bridge nd getting mown down by some lunatic racing down there in the fog!

Nerves got the better of me so I filled up at Tesco Boston.

Come to think of it. I remember Sylv being nervous about coming back from Heathrow on what was left. Even though I assured her it was 100% fine perhaps she snuck she litres in.

Better go and interrogate her!
