C5 spare wheel problem.

The black paint will be scraped where it was interfering.
Same look as my steely-looking alloy spare, and I’ve used it at the back without problems.
It still had the original Michelin XH1 made in November of 2002.
I’ll look at it by daylight tomorrow and measure from the mounting face to the shoulder.

It isn't visible on the pictures here but on the original it it on the first 'shoulder' from the center.
I deliberately scraped it but it was just visible yesterday in decent light - I was indoors with crap lighting when I first discovered that it wouldn't fit.
I think it is rubbish that the minuscule variation of calliper orientation should cause this problem.
If I had an axle stand in the car it would be a doddle to bung it on the front and put a front wheel on the rear, one whole side of the car lifted to make it simple.
I expect that if I do carry an axle stand - or a pair of them, the next puncture will be a front wheel - if there ever is one.

Isn’t there something like a plumber that’s put washers under the caliper bolt heads ?
Besides caliper misalignment, there must be room for small flying road debris.
I’ve measured to the wrong shoulder; the first one from the inner rim which is about level with the mounting surface, and I’ll go back to it tomorrow.
From the centre of the hole it’s 16.7 cm to the shoulder, and that’s about 5 mm from the weld seam, but on the wrong side.
The outer rim says 6J15H2 ET18 KPZ PS815011 N2H 2S 260603 10018.
The inner rim says 07CWN200603.
The car is older than the spare made on 26-06-2003.
My tyre kicker told me last month that years ago he replaced recalled steel spare wheels with these alloys.
The spare wheel has bolts with 17 mm heads and ball seats.
The road wheel bolts have 19 mm heads with captive flat washers.

The callipers will have to be removed and cleaned but I think that I will look for a standard road wheel as a spare.
I can't imagine why they would assemble them with a washer where there was none before.
I did try to get them off but they weren't budging.
Note the clever way the pad retaining bolt is in from the rear, necessitating calliper removal to get the pads out!
No plumber's have worked on my car but there are washers under the bolt heads by the look of it. Is this wrong then?Isn’t there something like a plumber that’s put washers under the caliper bolt heads ?

I've got a spare bolt to compare numbers / dimensions with.myglaren wrote:That may be the problem then.
I will as a matter of course replace the bolts when the calliper comes of as it seems SOP for them to shear when being removed.
Can you measure / photograph the bolt heads?
I tried getting hold of suitable replacements from a local nut and bolt supplier, but they didn't have any equivilent high tensile metric fine thread bolts...
There are washers under the bolt heads, so we can’t blame the plumbers.
The bolt head does look taller than those that I couldn’t loosen even with a 16 mm socket.
Considering the force needed to budge them, you would expect plenty of head, so it’s off to a very bad start just to replace the pads.
Measured the spare wheel this morning; from centre to first shoulder it’s 15.5 cm.
That’s about halfway between the edge of the weld seam and the outside of the holes.
