I have done

xud td clutchs ... about ten of them
hdi clutchs .. well that depends which size bhp.. hdi 90 use the be3 xud gearbox with a push clutch.. where as the hdi 110 uses the big beast ml or is it me or mg but anyway the bigger beast with hydraulic clutch and pull clutch which is harder as theres less space. Ive done about 5 110 hdis and ive done a 90bhp too..

theres no real need to physically drop the box out of the engine bay unless you are changing the nylon parts on the be3 .. but for an xud or hdi 90 or 110 I can do them in a day start to end and drive away. Its a long day but possible..

uk offical v6s are normally auto so no clutch aside for personal conversions..

If your a competent spannerperson then a clutch change Isn't that tricky, I did mine a couple of months back, I read through the clutch changing thread a few times to get the process in my head, whilst I had the box out I changed the plastic/nylon bushes at the same time, for the sake of £6 wasn't worth not doing,
I did mine with the car on stands on the drive, If I had the bushes it would have been a day's job, but took a few as had to wait for the bushes to arrive,
Only trouble I had was not Double checking the clutch fork Had engaged before bolting it all up, during one of the wiggles to get it on it had popped out and spun round! D'oh! But an hour later was off and back on lined up and working!

Did have a minor panic/concern over Why it kept stalling when wheels off and on stands as I let the clutch up to check operation, after a few attempts I remember the handbrake was on! ;-) :-O was getting very tired at that point! ;-)
After All, I am the Cornish one!

I would be interested to find out the information in respect of the models listed below.

(1)T.D
(2) H.D.I.
(3) Activa
(4) V6
How long is a piece of string? With all Xantias being over a dozen years old, it will depends on the individual car, the skill and experience of the mechanic and the equipment available. I reckon, that having changed a TD cambelt twice now, I could now do the job in less than half the time compared with my first time.

It's worth adding that it seems to be important not to abuse the first motion (input) shaft by letting it take the weight of the gearbox and/or using brute force when refitting the shaft into the clutch plate.

Twice as long as from one end to the other

I remember when Jim and I did Cassy's clutch (and gearbox) first time round using jacks, his engine crane, and some pilates (lying on my side, one hand on the hanging gearbox, one hand on the jack handle and my left foot up in the air operating the engine crane handle :)
We managed the job in a day and it only cost us a new windscreen.
Unfortunately I hadn't heeded the warnings re Transmech clutches and we had to swap the clutch for a Valeo one a few years (or maybe just a year) later.
Actually just consulted my blog, we fitted her Valeo clutch in Nov 2011, and the Transmech about 80K beforehand in 2008.
