I take this back. The car is an animalR9UKE wrote:I have no doubt that the Activa would be far quicker than this C5 V6. In fact, many things would be, it couldn't really be described as fast at all - more an effortless cruiser. You can practically hear it saying "Do we really have to??" when the pedal is pushed to the floor! I really wouldn't believe that the same engine lives under the bonnet of my Laguna.
I have a quarter of a tank left from my trip back home so I thought I'd erase all thoughts of keeping that average MPG figure up and see what the old girl can do. Took it to the country roads 5 mins away.
Was at about 50 MPH, clicked the gearbox sport button and it immediately dropped a gear - I could tell it meant business. The next 10 minutes consisted of the V6 singing at between 5,000 - 6,000 rpm and me trying to figure out whether or not I was still in that lazy C5 I was talking about.
From zero, the car sprints like I would never have imagined - holding on to every gear until the last possible point, and then when slowing down it changes down keeping the revs up high as you slow - instead of going into neutral as it does normally. WHAT. A. CAR.
An absolute schizophrenic beast. Can't believe how much difference that button makes, and why the hell I haven't been using it up to now. 2 cars in one, best of both worlds - the Citroen C5 V6 is an excellent car.

Precisely. It's so true.Citroening wrote:Like what Roger Bradford said about the Xantia V6 - a true Jekyll and Hyde car!R9UKE wrote:2 cars in one, best of both worlds
Hahaha! The diamond will never be pushed aside! But you know what... if this viewer doesn't turn up tomorrow I may well be rethinking it's position within the fleetAh, does that mean you have caught the bug and will now push that diamond wearing car to one side?

I swear you grow two horns and a pointed tail whenever you depress the sport button in a V6

It has it's uses too. very handy for joining a fast moving stream of traffic from slip roads that run uphill...

Having driven a C5 with no power steering, its not a whole lot of fun!robert_e_smart wrote:The person who would want my Activa would be madder than the person wanting that C5 with no PAS!!!So no chance your going to swap it then ?
Your Activa is certainly a project

So then Robert, a C5 might well be able to take over from your XMing should a time come. An option to a S80 I guess ... see, I told you C5s were good, you had just not driven the one which suits you best.

I think a C6 will be picking up from the Xm when the time comes. I doubt the 2.2 HDi Auto will be as enjoyable as the V6!! One thing though, the series 1 C5 has much better seats than the Series 2 VTR thing we have here. I don't know if its Exclusive seats that are better than all the other or not.So then Robert, a C5 might well be able to take over from your XMing should a time come.
