This petrol-diesel debate comes up all too often. See chat for a place to let off some steam!

And talking of rubbish V6s, this was a suggested search option after I looked for a Kia Magentis. I wonder what type of Mercedes he's comparing it to??? :?

Quick update:

Search for a decent automatic for mum is over! Bought a 2002 Renault Scénic 1.6 Auto. Dynamique+ today :D

She's finally in a Renault! It's in excellent condition, and has all the goodies including part leather and a CD Changer. Going in on Monday for a timing belt change as the service history is a bit patchy.

Pics to follow!

An E-class probably, I don't like Mercs and that Hyundai will rust less!

Congratulations on the Scenic, was this an auction buy? Pictures would be good.

So your now a man of leisure I hear, nice!

Yes I am! They got funny about me buying cars. There's simply no way I could work in an auction and not buy. So I need to take the buying and selling a bit more seriously now, which should be a lot of fun and very rewarding!

Here's the Scénic! 2 owners from new, main agent trade in sent to auction.

What difference does it make to you buying the cars they are putting through? Someone will buy them ... or is it that you get a discount?

Id like to buy and sell a few cars, its something I really like doing and have done a few times. I do find it hard to resist the temptation to make them perfect before sale, but i manage it sometimes

That Scenic does look very tidy, my cousin has one just like it, but with larger wheels, im surprised yours has smaller ones. Mind, hers is a bit of a bettering ram!. The first Scenics are in some ways those are better cars than the ScenicII, more spacious, bigger boot, more cubbies, and I really like the can cooler box. I didnt imagine you would buy a manual and a good thing to, our RX4 was like stirring porridge with a long stick, very vague - it was fairly new too. Steering, well our RX4 felt as though it had 40 turns from lock to lock, forever twirling the thing!

I bet an auto box does suit that well actually, shouldn't be too bad on fuel either. Why does the gear selector have two buttons on it?

Ive been driving our old 2.0 16v XM auto today, what a joy! 8-)

Back in the XM? Very nice. I'm sure you're pleased to have an auto around, I'm glad there's going to be one permanently around here.

They just said that as I have access to inside information (reserves etc) it just can't continue. Even though I get no special treatment

I'm pleased though, I can make more money from soing something I love! Currently I have the Laguna waiting for MOT, Mum's 206 to prep and advertise and I also need to pick up the Daewoo Lanos I bought with the Scénic

The lower button brings up a "D3" light on the dash. Overdrive?

Unfortunately not Dean, just doing a bit of work on it. More in my blogs thread.

Luke, after driving that I do miss having a proper auto around here. I don't think I realised just how much that awful sensordrive gearbox in the Peugoet had put me off automatics. Real autos are good, pretend ones are horrible!

Well that does seem unfair and it seemed to be a job you enjoyed too. Never mind, only yourself as a boss now. I wish I was my own boss!

A Daewoo Lanos, well, better than a Nexia I suppose  I guess you live close by the auction to be able to get them so easily home? The nearest one to me is about 35 miles round trip and really is never well stocked.

Does the D3 not just lock it from going higher than 3rd?

Chris hasn't said he's bought the White Xm back,
just he's hitched up again for a moment for old time's sake! ;)

Luke, is it just by coincedence that your neighbours driven Renaults too? There is always one lingering in the background of your pictures.

I know, I'm actually quite ashamed of myself. It's purely a buy and sell car... I can't have something like that sticking around. It's disgusting.

Chris I'm so glad you have realised how horrific the sensodrive is! And you're right, D3 locks out 4th gear. Can't believe that didn't click in my head ](*,)

Yep, auction is 10 min walk from my grandmother's house which is real handy. It's funny you mention the neighbours. They have that silver Mégane and a dreadful Micra "Inspiration", but the cul-de-sac is pretty well populated with Renaults. Numerous Scénics, Méganes, Clios and an old couple with a 1998 Laguna 2.0 RTi that they've had since new. i'm after it :D

That is a problem I would have, buying cars which don't interest me, I don't think I could do it.

Sensodrive was driving me crazy, in the end I didnt want to move the car around our parking area, never mind drive it

I can only think of one Renault in my street, a poverty spec y-reg Scenic in the same colour as yours. I don't think I know of anyone around here who likes Renaults like you do

What they don't realise is that some of my best friends still work there and will still tell me everything!

And really, I am ashamed. Woke up this morning and thought I'd go pick it up. But then I thought about it and had a day with the Scénic instead.

It actually is. I'm really impressed with it - No migraine yet. There were a few typical Scénic issues to sort out, two of them I sorted today, and the other will be sorted when it goes for the belt changes on Monday. Other than than, it really is like a brand new car!

Now to try and sell a less than cherished Peugeot 206. A good few small dents (one on each wing) and some from careless door opening in car parks. Engine management light is on and has not been diagnosed as the car is running fine and always has been. Also needs a new Comms 2000. Other than that it's great. Full service History (due one now), two owners from new, 1.1 engine and a decent LX spec. Hopefully it will pay at least pay for the Scénic.
